I mean to make shure that you are getting a seal between your e3c's and ears (like with earplugs). Most people say once you figure out, it's easy to do again. But until then, you may think they don't sound very good (lack of bass especially).

The seal is key, just like it's said above. If you can't get a good one, those top of the line headphones become worse than the crappy ones that come with your cd player. 
Try out all the different seals as shown above, I'm sure you'll get a goo fit. Once you do, you'll know it.

Yeah, the Shures aren't earbuds so much as they are what are commonly called "canalphones." I.e. they push into your ear canal a bit and seal against the insides to create optimum sound. Do be aware that these will obviously block out a lot of outside noise, so don't plan on hearing much other than your music

I don't have the shures, but i own a set of sony canalphones, and there are a few things to keep in mind:
it takes a few seconds to get them in your ear...if they slide out, use a smaller earpeice on teh plug...if the sounds has poor dynamics, use a larger earpiece. BUT at first using them will hurt slightly..especially if you jsut q-tipped your ears...some wax is needed to lubricate these going in.
Also look at looping the cords around your ears..this solves one common issue with canalphones...eveytims someone nudges the cable, you hear it.
The last bit is how they block out outside noise...even my crappy sonys do enough noise blocking htat they are unsafe to use in public...I almost go nailed by a truck once due to not paiyng attention...I was going by my hearing and I couldn't hear it coming...
Basically only use them when you are sitting around or similar...sont use them on a bike, and please dont use them when walking somewhere...that's a bad day wiating to happen.

I have the e5's which is what I use with my ear monitor packs. I also have custom ear molds and they make all the difference. I never could get a proper seal with the stock sleeves.
