I was thinking of selling everything to buy a new computer with PCI-E
but what I want to know is, is pci-e great yet or is it still in the starting out mode, is it worth starting over to buy a card in that will I notice that much more speed from it

I have shuttle sb65g2 3.0c
6600 gt 128
1 gig corsair yadda yadda

maining I want to know is pci-e worth going GA GA over or just wait a few more months-years

thanks

are you serious? Man this forum has really gone downhill.

Google the performance benefits of PCI-E...unless you are going to do 6800's in SLI, you won't gain anything special over a high-end AGP setup.

I think the entire internet community has gone downhill...but there are plenty of forums that are much worse ><

Firebomb, keep your system. Do you NEED to spend money? If not...then don't bother. PCI-E has the potential..but..yeah go google for what it can do now.

you have an excellent setup as it is already. i wouldnt sell your system just yet. unless you want to make a larger return on it now, than in a few months.

PCIe is still relatively immature, but only because the code hasnt caught up w/ the hardware yet. next-gen games will be written for PCIe, thereby increasing PCIe performance a large amount.

buyin into PCIe now is only good for getting a foothold in the future. its like a door-to-door insurance salesman. buying into PCIe is getting your foot into the door, but when next-gen games come out, you will be inside the house selling the insurance plan. stupid analogy, but i think it gets the point across. ;)

you would be crazy to upgrade.... my system is pretty close and im planning to run this for at least another 18 months

lol firebomb...you were about to go pci-e for nothing..lmao.....if u aint gonna be sli'ing anything..then NO, if you are wanting to upgrade ur system, throw a 6800gt in there and be happy..

what about me

i also have a shuttle with agp. i want to upgrade my video card, and figure i might as well go pci-e also so that i can both A) save money on this purchase (my range is the mid-high end cards like x800xl which is much cheaper and smaller as pci-e) and B) get cards in the future.

i figure by looking on ebay i could probably get around 500~600 for my system...

thats what I have been doing LOL other than the video card I have not bought anything for this system for about a year
well thanks
I think I wil keep it :)

There are other reasons to go pcie even if there is no difference comparing agp to it.How about 4 drive raid 0 with the ich6r controller?

Wait for the R520s and G80s before going PCI-E, your system is fine for now.
