I'm in the process of building a new pc. Tomorrow I get the final pieces. Technically, I could have it up and running tomorrow if I use the Radeon 9800 I have. However, I am getting a GT on Thursday. I would switch out the cards then without a second thought, however I've heard that even using driver cleaner can not get rid of the old cards presence and that can cause problems when using a new card.

I want to get the best possible experience with my new pc. Should I wait to have it up and running and only do so when I get the GT? Or is that not worrying about? I can use the Radeon until I get the GT, delete the drivers, use driver cleaner and get the same performance I would from a fresh install of the card? Your opinions are welcomed and appreciated.

if your anxious to use the new pc, just install the radeon, what's the worse that can happen? :D

They only real advantage would that if you did have any issues with the new build , you would know that it was not do to the issue you are currently concerned with. Since its a new build , I would wait.

I would wait, I had a 9800pro, scrubbed out the drivers, used driver cleaner in safe mode, etc, and still had a lot of problems, I formatted and not a problem since.
