should i water cool my new system or air cool it? I have posted the specs in this post. Any info on what i should use will help a lot.:)

The honest answer is: Do you enjoy tinkering with computers and squeezing the most out of it?

If yes, then watercool it. You'll have lots of fun modding and installing a loop.

If no, air cool it.

well i do like messing around with it....but i was wondering how much money am i looking at putting a decent water cooling system in my new rig....and will i be better building my own or buying a kit?

A point to keep in mind, is that no one company makes the the best water cooling loop components. Therefore, a kit by anyone would be lacking in some way. Companies like D-Tek, ThermoChill, Laing, Swiftech and EK are among the leaders of the water cooling scene atm.

Each company has a product that is the best in the marketplace. The best "all-around" company (If you were to consider a kit), which I am sure no one could deny is Swiftech.

ive been thinking about it and i really dont want a kit...i would like to put something together myself......Now i just need to know what its going to be price wise. I dont need the absolute best, but i dont need the cheapes peice of junk either. I just want a decent set up. So could someone please give me a price range:rolleyes:

$300 will get you started in the right direction. The great thing about WC'ing is that it's a long term investment that will go from computer to computer with you, especially if you swap components every 3 months like I do.

I'd start of with a D-Tek Fuzion CPU waterblock, Liang DDC-2 w/ Petra's top pump, a Swiftech MCR 220 QP radiator, a swiftech mcres-micro reservoir and 10 feet of cheap 7/16" masterkleer tubing.

That should run you about $300 w/ shipping & tax if purchased from a place like Petrastechshop.com

I'll warn you though. Once you start watercooling, it will become an addiction. You'll soon want to do case mods. The next thing you know you'll consider your WC components as crucial as your actual PC components.

its true, i've only been doing it for about 4 months but i've already spent about $900 on watercooling. Once you start you'll want to look into a new case, and once u get the case you'll want better components and the chain goes on...good tihng is I'm stuck with my 2 8800 GTS' since I gave the stock heatsinks away...yippie, EK blocks ftw

I'm on my second watercooled rig, have to say I'm hooked, at least for my main computer. I think I had more fun installing the WC'ing loop than I did assembling the latest computer it went into. I can't say I "need" the watercooling, however it is a blast to research & install, and it will help you out if you are planning to overclock your rig.

Guess it also depends on if you want to worry about checking on it or maintaining it every so often as well. With air cooling you can just kind of forget about it until the dust bunnies take up residence, but I like to check my loop periodically for leaks and such, and eventually you'll need to drain/clean the loop.

My addiction forced me to turn it into a side job. I couldn't keep convincing myself and the family that we needed more machines...and that they needed watercooling as well.

On my machine alone in my sig, I've spent about 2 grand alone just for the cooling components, the case, and the tools to modify the case/components. I think I've spent about 4 thousand across 4 machines (the other three aren't as decked out or customized but still, they all have nothing less than Thermochill/MCRs, DDC-2's, etc)

That's not even including the system components!
