Well hey. I've got a BFG 6600 GT OC right now and need an upgrade. I've had an offer for a x1950XTX card for $200. I don't know much about ATI and the pricing on the interweb seems to be off a little so I'm curious if that's a good price (Canadian btw, so about $190 USD)?

Thanks.

Are there any other cards within that price range that are the same or better?

I know $CDN translate fairly closely into $US, but aren't most video card prices still jacked way up in Canada for new retail compared to US prices?

I do notice it's used, but I'm thinking in terms of saving money used relative to what a brand new card would cost.

Yeah a lot of the prices are pretty high here like the stores think that the dollar is stuck in the 90s :-/

That's a decent deal. Especially the 1950xtx. Good silent cooler too. I had one for a little while. The card ripped games like butter. It's the fastest dx9 card.

Next step up would be 8800gts.

I'd say that's not a bad price at all, plus you have the advantage of using the x1950XTX hsf.

As for Canadian prices as of late, you guys might want to read THIS blogspot. It's written by one of my best friends, but it says it like it is. Heck, I live in Florida and I think it's pretty important to be educated on what exactly is going on, and why Canadian companies are reporting such high profits as of late:

“I bought a birthday card for my nephew that was $5 U.S. And it was $8 Canadian, and I said to the clerk, ‘That’s ridiculous. You know, that’s a 60% exchange rate,’ ” complains a man who knows a thing or two about loonies and toonies, BMO economist Doug Porter.

Despite an exchange rate of mere pennies, Porter says at the retail level we’re still miles apart.

“There is roughly a 10% price gap between Canada and the U.S. Even when you use a very conservative exchange rate like 88 cents, which is what the average has been over the last year and a half,” he said

But then they would have to completely reprint their greeting card, and God knows how costly that would be for them, mineaswell just keep it at the crappy exchange rate

At OP: Sounds like a decent deal. It's not an 8800, but it's not like it's that far off either. It should still play some games pretty decently, and if you are gaming at a higher resolution with AA, then should even pull away from the GTS 320mb in most games. I would seriously consider it.

I have one and dig it. It appears that I may need more cpu though to fully appreciate it, lol. I think 190 is a decent price for a card that can last you a while. It's no dx10 but you should hold out, in my opinion, until some real decent numbers come out with the new crop of games in regards to performance and graphics cards.

It's a very decent price. I just paid $179 for my X1950XT 256MB @ Egg and I'm still amazed by the performance. It blows my old 7950GT 512MB (BFG OC) out of the WATER, even in higher res/more AA.

That's what [H] regulars been telling all the people in these forums.

1950xtx will be much better than the 1950xt. Especially higher resolutions. I love 1950xtx cooler too. It's silent and keeps the card cool.

So joy, while getting 'permission' to use the money from my wife and the time it took the guy sold the card to someone else :(

However, There is an x1950xt that I can get for $180 CDN, 1/2 the ram but the same card over all right?

Sapphire X1950XT

Thanks.

Well what is the difference between the Master and Slave x1950XTX cards? The XTX guy just emailed me back saying he has the Slave left for $200.

It's for Crossfire... I'm not sure though if you can use a Slave by itself... you should do some research on that one ;)

Well the master (Crossfire edition) and the slave (non-crossfire edition) can be run on their own or together. Same card, just the master has the crossfire chip and no vivo on the back of the card.

So I'm going to get the xt1950xtx from this guy cause that card should last me a couple years I think.

Nice, have fun with that. The absolute best of last generation ;)

And I'm not saying that as a bad thing, that card still kicks ass

Heh...I will definitely have fun with it...my poor old 6600 gtoc is really falling behind.

I would get an 8800 but I don't have the extra $150 to work with. I'm barely scraping enough to get this $200 card so this one will do for me for a long time ;-)

The XTX will be a great holdover until a year or two from now when current cards actually reach reasonable prices, and since no good DX10 games will be out for a bit, it's not a bad idea to stick with this card until money is around for an upgrade in a year or two

I'm confused. How you can you be a [H] member. You have an 8800 card but saying ATI actually made a good product? According to all the 2900 fanatics....that would cause time space to rip.

As for that card...yeah, it rocked. It made cards for everyone much better priced compared to what they are now. When companies actually compete...we all win.

LOL This is actually my first NVIDIA card EVAR!!! All my older cards were ATI, and the X19xx cards were great. I usually prefer ATI if it comes down to brand, but this newest offering by ATI had me scratching my head, and the ones who kept saying it was a good card had me rather annoyed.

Edit: Actually when I was younger my dad bought me a present.... it was an FX5200 I think... whatever it was, I was happy he bought it for me, but I knew it was crap and asked him to take it back because it wouldn't do anything for me, lol. I think that was when I had a 3dfx banshee card, lol. Soon after I bought my own 9500Pro used from a friend. It was a nice upgrade along with my 2500+ Barton and 512 freaking mb's of ram!
