thinking about fooling around and oc my new box. is it worth it or just a waste of time? was on a limited budget.

A little reckless advice if I do say so myself.

You should find this helpful in instructions and the risks/effects of overclocking.
 
yeah do it, but do remeber it does cut like a lot of life from CPU, i mean like 5 from the 10 years its supposed to be able to live, but usually most people dont keep a cpu for more than 5 years. BTW im just throwing reasonable numbers out there, im sure someone else can give you more concrete numbers. Do it, its addictive, and if you smell smoke, its not any of our faults.....which brings up the point of keeping a fire extinguisher next to the comp.......
 
man, it totally DOESNT kill the life of a cpu, not hardly at ALL

you could run these processors overclocked for years and they'd be fine. what ppl don't understand is they aren't like, moving parts or anything, its just electronisc. if you run it at it's stock voltage, but higher speed, it will last EXACTLY the saem amount of time it would have before....no more no less.....same with anything in a computer; overclocking it won't hurt it; overvolting it *may* but honestly, we're talking about like, half a volt at the most, that won't harm your cpu

go for it, and know that you are only getting free performance, and losing nothing for it

thats honeslty not what everyone who has a faq on this forum has said, but ok.
 
I think alot of people say that to be cautious, but I have had my 1.6A northwood OC'd to 2.1 for years (about 5) without any problems at all.
