hey,

i am going to college in august so i need a laptop. i have deicded on dell since they offer some amazing coupons every 3 months. the problem is the next release of dell 40% off coupons is in july and then in oct.

so should i wait till oct and see if dell includes the memron chips in their insipiron notebooks or should i just go with the current core duo mobile chip?
 
It is merom, not memron :)

Well, we should see it in august, however, you might ask dell if they might get it even sooner. Personally, I'd wait, however, merom laptops will be more expensive
 
true but if they are worth the cost of diffrence then i might as well get the best of whats out there now.

then again if meron chips can be used on a yonah compatible motherboard then i can just upgrade the cpu.
 
Yes, yonah/merom are pin to pin compatible but it depends on laptop manufacturer/model/bios whether they will support both. For example, aopen 975X desktop board for yonah currently supports also merom without problems, just bios update
