Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz - 214.99 (15 dollars off)
Asrock z77 Extreme4 134.99 w/ free 8gb Crucial RAM

total: 349.98

Coming from:

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz @ 4.7ghz
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

I certainly wouldn't, if I was wanting meaningful performance/price returns. OTOH, if ya want New Shiney, then ya want New Shiney.

I was just considering it because of the 65 dollar discount

(free ram and 15 off the motherboard)

Totally not worth it. Though this is coming from someone who has yet to find a need to upgrade from a 4ghz Lynnfield.

I assume you are selling your current CPU and motherboard + free ram. That could bring the upgrade cost down to $125 or so.

yes I am selling my other combo

Even then (assuming a $125 total upgrade cost) when I think of it this probably will not be worthwhile. I mean you can not really expect to beat the 4.7Ghz performance you currently have so the gain you can expect is a lower idle power draw + few extra bells and whistles in the new mobo.

i have about the same system as OP. i feel there in no point ot upgrade now. 1150 will be out with a new gen of cpus. that is whant im eyeing.

I'd say stick with what you have. You will not gain much performance and will avoid headaches with possible DOA and/or defective hardware (altough not likely). Will also save $125 to upgrade to 1150.

Nah, no real need to do that. If anything, maybe take the $125 out of pocket you would be spending, and sell something else and upgrade it, like your GPU, or maybe get a 240-256GB SSD, or whatever else you need/want.

i would not, and if you overclock, the i5-2500k is better...the i5-2500k runs cooler too...i know, i had both, and now have the 3570.....i bought mine at frys, and then did the 15 day return and then got the 3570...was going to take that back for the 3770, but settled on the 3570
