My old LGA 1366 mobo recently died. I have a first generation Core i7 930 , 16GB DDR3 and GTX 1080, and 2560x1440 resolution.

Such an old CPU can still hold its ground very good with today's games! It's crazy!! The lack of real competition has made Intel a slacker IMHO, oh well

Mainly use is cad software, gaming and internet browsing.

I have two choices
  • Buy a new crappy chinese LGA 1366 and wait, until new CPU architecture arrives) or
  • Buy a new Mobo, CPU and DDR4 now. I'm interested in the Core i7-9700K (Budget around US$800)
What would you guys recommend to me? Wait or buy now?
Thanx

There are other stopgap solutions like buying components or a system used but for my 2c I'm waiting for Zen 3. I should be fine for another 6 - 9 months but then I've got to upgrade.

The 9600K is only $259.99 for 6 core vs $419 for the 8 core 9700K.
I cannot think of a scenario where the 9700K would be a smart buy.
If you need more than 6 cores just get a 2600X/2700X and replace it with Zen 2 16 core later in the year (same motherboard)

$800 is tight but doable to replace most of the computer.

Maybe look at used mobos for the 1366? That’s another option.

I have two 920s still running strong as well.

Well, I guess that's the story of our life. Don't buy this because that is gonna come out soon, yeah.
