What resolution are you playing at ? anyway the best bang for the buck card is still the 970 if you wanna stay with NVIDIA. or 290x if you wanna try AMD.

That depends on the resolutions and frame rates you want. For 1600x1200 at 85Hz, a 980 or R9-290 would suffice. For something more like 2048x1536@85, I'd go with a 980 Ti or a FurieX. If you are running something really high, like 2560x1920, you might want to consider SLIing two flagships. 980 Ti is best bang for buck, way faster than the 980.

so are you saying 670=380? I doubt this.

At stock, the 670 is about equal to the 7950. It also overclocks way better than any AMD card, which is a huge advantage. A R9-380 is a rebranded 285, which is slightly faster than the 7950. At stock, this would be less than a 20% difference. When overclocked, they will be about equal and the 670 may even be slightly faster.

The CRT is strong with this one.

I also agree with this, i would skip the 380. 290/290x 390/390x 970/980/980ti

I went with the 970 for $229 new which is far better deal then i could find on a new 290/390 that wasnt used for bitcoin mining :)

no.. GTX 670 > HD7950 which its about the same as ~R9 285 and even stronger in a lot of games due to the extra bandwidth. and R9 285 = R9 380. so at the end the GTX 670 will still be faster in vast majority of the games versus the R9 380, maybe a couple of games like Far Cry 4 where kepler perform just crappy there but nothing more, for the rest the GTX 670 will still perform better.

Hey guys I am running a Gigabyte gtx 670 windforce since the day they came out which is what 3 yrs now? If I were to upgrade what would be the best bang for the buck?

While I am not really pushing my current setup I dont like letting my equipment get so old that they are virtually worthless.

Dude, I can understand the infatuation with buying and selling. For some people it's a hobby :D

But I don't understand your concern about "losing resale value." Every year your card resells for less, but that's because every year you got "X" value out of continued use of your GPU, instead of someone else using it.

It's not a race to sell your card. The cost of a new 970/390 card TODAY (around $150 after you sell your 670) vastly outweighs the opportunity cost of using an old card for another year (sale price will drop by $30-50). And each year you wait, the cost of a new card (with the same performance increase for you as the 970 or 390 offer today) will come down as well, erasing any "lost" value you're perceiving here.

After all, the price drops on NEW cards is precisely what's pushing down the prices of the USED card market.

I went from a 670 (also bought on launch day in May 2012) to a 970 about a month ago. It's a huge upgrade, especially since I only play at 1920x1200 @ 60Hz. Net cost to upgrade was about $200CAD after selling my 670.

I play BF4, Dragon Age Inquisition, Witcher 3, CSGO and will probably grab Star Wars and Fallout 4 at some point when they are on sale.

Now that I have time to respond, sorry but you guys are so far off the mark. The 680 was the 7970 rival but then fell off further down the line. The 770 was the remake/somewhat tweaked 680. (Hold on I am getting there.) Ok so keeping that in mind, and stating the obvious that the 680/770 is greater than the 670, we look at the r9-380.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_radeon_r9_380_strix_review,12.html

Here the 380 is above the 770 and therefore above even more a 670.

I assume the 760 would therefore be akin to the 670 and it isn't even in the same ballpark as the 380. You guys need to recheck your statements.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_radeon_r9_380_strix_review,10.html

And because I don't want anyone claiming I am cherry picking, here the 770 is just above the 380 therefore the 670 is not likely better here either.

This is the point I guess where I am supposed to call you an idiot and how sloppy and ignorant a job you did with your rebuttal, but I wont. What I will say is that your attempt to prove the 380s performance level against a 670 is poor and terrible. You link to a 285, fine since it is similar but it is back when? I link to a 380 review that is current with current drivers. It is no secret that AMD GPUs have been scaling well over time so posting old benchmarks proves only that you are cherry picking. I posted 380 benches that prove the point I made and go so far as to prove you are wasting the OPs time with rhetoric and dishonesty.

i'm showing you direct comparison between cards.... you will not find that with modern reviews, just conjectures.. =).

Wrong. You said or at least inferred the 670=380. I proved it isn't based on 770>670 and 770=380. Therefore your statement 670=380 is false and unfounded.

Err what? You showed that in one game that what he stated wasn't true, that isn't a summation of anything. He showed an entire game suite that showed what he stated was true. So guess what......

yes you know man, Assumptions and conjectures are always better than direct comparisons.. ;) he's the kind of guy that can not be argued, because they always want to be right.

So you cant read either. Point was a 380 not a 285. Doesn't matter they are supposed to be similar, one a rebadge of the other. I showed the 380, card in question, against a card that is without a doubt better than the original card in the comparison therefore should be better than that original card. Mine was current and relevant to a purchase today, his was not.

So how about you prove the 380 is equal to a 670 with some phantom benchmark voodoo. Seriously you guys try so hard to fight reason when it makes the outcome you want look bad.

Ok lets start with this:
R9 380 for 1080p
Which then you answered this:
that would be a sidegrade in best case scenarios... completely pointless.

Now I see a 380 being mentioned not a 285. So I go thru the trouble of posting where a 380 at best seems to be = 770 which for all intents and purposes = 680 which is > 670. Now that therefore would conclude rationally that the 380 is > 670 not = to. So therefore my wanting to be right is irrelevant as it seems I am right conclusively.

Just because something overclocks better does not mean better performance if the AMD card scales better.. now the 7950 gpus are not all the same as later editions was better but the 280 edition was more like the 280x as it ran a much higher voltage then the 7950's and would overclock to 1200Mhz easy and will compete with the 770GTX,,,
