Should I trust thermal shutdown?

I'm setting up a PIII Dell for F@H, and my main fan bit the dust (picture of the resulting damage to my finger here: http://animespoof.com/chistuffs/finger.jpg ) so I'm using a cheesy 80 mm fan instead that moves about the smallest possible amount of air (I can blow more air over the HS than this fan moves). Since it's going to be folding, it'll run at 100% CPU usage all the time. Should I trust thermal shutdown to work, or should I invest in a better fan? The case side will be off at all times. I have no way to monitor temps on the board while htings are running. :( It'll be running headless anyway. XP Pro. Any ideas for a free or very cheap solution?

U means BIOS controlled shutdown?

Hell yeah, saved my ass on more than one occasion.

BIOS controlled shutdown == Not an option on a Dell mainboard. I will have to rely on the actual diode in the chip to do it. :( This is my only PIII 1ghz chip, so losing it wouldn't be great, but wouldn't kill my only PC (it'll be machine #3 up and running for me, one more PIII 550 in the works later this evening).

In that case no way man, new fan or nothing.

Unless you got a big fan in your house you can aim into your case with the side off.

Actually, I'm going to see how it goes first. If the hs isn't warm to the touch, I'm not going to bother. This fan doesn't move much, but it moves more than the original fan did, and my HS is definatly overkill for this. This CPU puts out very little heat that I have noticed so far. I'll run SiSoft and see what my temps are, it actually can find the diode I guess.
