i bought my evge 640mb gts in late sept... right ow im debating steping up to the GT or the newly revamped GTS

is it worth it?
thanks,
doug

To the 8800GT, for sure.

Not sure if you'll get the money back for the difference in value though, so you might be better off "selling" and then buying new.

You won't get any money back from "stepping up" to a "lower end" card for less money. Also, that new 8800GTS probably won't be available for step-up because it is a SSC card, which is in limited supply, and they usually don't list those as an available option.

yeah i was thinking the 8800gt ssc edition too but the only problem is that they havent released it for the step up program... i have 59 days left on my step up program so i guess if i hould out till end of dec early jan it will be available for trade up....

yeah the ssc cards are not available... im going to hold out anohter month and maybe they will be availbe...

bothout of the 8800gt ssc and the 8800gts ssc the 8800gt is the better choice? it has better clocks but slower bandwidth....

edit: oh i know i want get the difference but i lost the original packaging so i loose 15% of value droping my card from 340 to 289.... so ill have to pay $10 + S&H

You're not likely to EVER see the SSC released into the step-up pool. They *used* to have all cards, bar the short-lived Sig nature series (7900GT) step-up'able, but it was just after that they changed their policies. You *might* see a mid-line GT show up, but of course all they guarantee is the EGS/stock spec cards.... TBH, unless ATIs upcoming cards REALLY kick ass price/performance/power draw wise (and detract from NV sales), I don't see anything other than EGS cards ever being in the pool...NVIDIA/their partners seem to have a market killer on their hands here and there may be stock issues at retailers like the oh-so-hard to find 7800GTX/512 ("Limited Edition but we never called it that" card) was.

What's wrong w/ o/cing even a stock model card anyway? You may/may not hit SSC speeds on a bone stock card, and EVGA covers it...Win win really. You'd lose $ value wise in the transaction, but you'd likely lose as much (or more) if you wanted to sell the current card to fund the 8800GT of your choice.

ps Am I the only one that thinks the SSC nomenclature is a REALLY lame idea - I mean WTF Super Super-clock? Marketing department ran out of ideas huh? Maybe it's some time for new talent (just keep Jacob Freeman, he was one helpful dude in multiple 7900 RMAs for me!).

Yeah I agree that the SSC nomenclature is pretty lame. BUT.. the card looks cool as hell, and thats what counts ;)
