Should I send my Typhoon back?

I just got my new Big Typhoon from newegg today. I opened it up to find that the copper surface (that goes against the CPU) has a nice little ding about where the edge of the CPU die will sit. It will definitely be over the CPU. It's about the size of a ball point on a BIC pen, and maybe .25 mm deep.

I plan on smearing some artic silver across the surface to fill the pit, but I just wanted some advice on whether or not the ding is worth the shipping cost (and time) to RMA it through newegg.

Thanks

i would personally send it back. You shouldnt have to pay for return shipping costs if the product arrived damaged. Newegg should be pretty quick with returns also. If you are going to pay that much for a high performance cooler, you dont want any blemishes affecting your performance.

He will have to pay for return shipping. As I recall how newegg states it, its the same as driving to a local store, if you get home and its broken, you still have to drive back to the store to return it, they don't send someone out to your house. In this sense, newegg likens shipping costs to that of gasoline so be prepared to eat any shipping and handling cost, hoping to get a better product (would like be a tt QC issue, thus the replacement might be no better). I say just try it out, hope it works out for you.

Newegg is one of the few sites I have ever purchased from that has bent their own return policy. I got a borked funcpad from them once, so I emailed customer service and got a response saying that I didn't even have to return the bad one. They would simply refund the money to my credit card, which they did, because the pad was out of stock. That isn't to say that all their CSRs will do that, but there is a chance.

And yes, I would personally send it back unless you are impatient (like me) and need it right away.

Well, as much as I like newegg, this isnt the first time that I've received bad stuff from them. And yes, I did have to pay for shipping the defective product back to them.

I just read up on lapping and have decided its something I will do anyway, so I'll just lap this one. (Plus I'm a little impatient too ;) )

Now if my vid card would only get here, I could get to the business of building my new rig :D

Id say try it first..If your temps are crazy by all means return it..

You shouldnt have to pay for a defective product, but if you lap it itll most likely be perfectly fine depending on the depth of the ding.

If thats the only thing thats wrong with it, I'd say keep it, simply because 'everyone' laps their typhoon..... and any other thermaltake heatsink ;)
