I have one of these taking up space at work, We gutted it for spare parts and for parts on other mods. The ony thing left in it is the motherboard and the psu, The damn thing still weighs a ton! No one wants it, So I was thinking of modding it into a super server. I know I will have to cut the ass end out to fit new mobo, I think I will go twin Opterons and host web sites . Has anyone ever modded an old server like this>? and please tell me the problems you had or any sugestions as to what I can do to this beast--- Thanks

here is the link

I was thinking of flat black and dark red leds ( do they make dark red) to give it that sinister look, should I make a mod log on it?

do it, and yes please make a log. I've never seen dark red led's but I'm sure you could make them...use some of that "nightshades" spray tint junk or whatever it is on your normal red leds and I would bet that would do the trick :)

ok I will bring home the case some time this week and start a log, might be a long project :D

im sorry but every time i see a huge server case like that i just have to start drooling, it just makes me warm and fuzzy inside to see a monolith of "ancient" power like that. :D

anyway, cant wait to see ya get it home and start hacking away at it...keep us updated

WOAH i have the exact same case sitting near my closet, i bought it at a thrift store for $25 and it came with 8 hdd's a scsi card and a dual pentium chip, prob orignal hardware. If i ever find time to mod it, i will make it very sexy and sweet

i think u guys should battle it out...... UBAR MOD STYLE!!!!!! post worklogs and such :D happy modding :D

xero- Look at FILECOMS old school compaq work log--- that computer will eat yours and mine lol its so cool!

I am going to take home the case in the next few days and start a log, mophes are you down for a little friendly comp? :D

I have reply to this post about when you see large computer cases you drool. I have this case which weighed in at 26 pounds empty. I had a redundant powersupply dual 300watts, 2 external 3.5bays and 10 external 5.25inch bays. This case is split, one side for all the drive bays and the other side for the motherboard. I fitted a Iwill workstation board running 1.8ghz p4 processor, 195mb of ddr2100, 5 hard drives total drive size 340gb, one dvd-rw burner, 1 dvd drive, 1 58x cd-rom drive. I modded the powersupply to take a antec 430watt true powersupply. left one power module in the cabinet as a dummy unit, and placed the antec in the area of where I pulled out the other powersupply module.

I did modded out a proliant 1500 case to fit a dual pentium socket 370 motherboard it runs a dual 1.13mhz processors. It is the first unit of the three computers I am making a cluster server.

I really don't think I can mod this thing, this server case is not made of alumimum, but I have a mod going for restructuring a case for fit a Quad Pentium3 xeon mb.
