should I lap my quad?

Rig in sig, my q6600 temps are:

Core#0: 35
Core#1: 40
Core#2: 41
Core#3: 35

at idle, similar when its at load.

Where two cores are always about 5-6~ deg off from the other two. Is this due to the chip being concave and the IHS isn't making contact all the way? If so, fixable through lapping correct?

lastly, worth it?

edit: not sure if it matters, but i'll be lapping it before I convert my rig into pure water cooled.

I vote yes. Lapping is win. Never hurts to have lower temps.

Right now, at around 3.5Ghz, around:

Core#0: 62
Core#1: 57
Core#2: 56
Core#3: 63

Same pattern, two cores would be 5-7 deg cooler than the other two.

I'm not convinced your delta in temps is due to a concave IHS, like you mention. Almost all exposure I've had to quads is that one of the dual core dye's seem to be higher on average. And, 5 - 7 C isn't too bad, I've seen as high as 10 C on a client's quad.

I've also reseated the IHS many times, and the delta in temps still occurs consistently.

etc etc.

most of them have their cores all reporting temps within 1-2 deg celcius of each other, so I'm guessing something's a little off on my end. You are right though that 5-7 deg isn't too bad but that was a recent temp reading and before, I've had it in the 9-10 deg region.

Just trying to pinpoint what is causing it, and how to fix it is all.

edit: granted, there are a lot of other pics of quads like mine as well.

mine is lapped. my difference in temps went away after i lapped.

sometimes lapping reduces resell prices .. so if you plan on selling in teh future you probably shouldn't

potentially, but the $ difference is usually about ten bucks on a cpu that is a bit older and sub 200.00. shouldn't really be a concern.

Though there are still more people thinking I shouldn't lap, they're not very vocal though
