Should I go with MX510?

I am a hardcore Counterstrike gamer and I play pretty my every FPS there is. I currently am using the Logitech MX700 and was wondering if I should spend the money to buy a mx510 since it is better for gaming? will I see an improvement and is it worth the money?
 
If you see any improvement, it'd probably be from the switch of wireless to wired. The 510 technically has better responsiveness but I cant imagine it'd be something you notice.

On the other hand, I bought an MX510 a few weeks ago and I love the thing to death. I switched from a much older Logitech Wireless, I just got tired of changing the batteries. The 510 is an excellent mouse, and I've given it quite a workout in UT2k4. No complaints.
 
Only big differences that you will notice is that it is wired and lighter compared to the MX700. Probably best to go to a local computer store and test it out.

It is a great mouse though!
 
after about a week I'm thinking about getting rid of my mx700. the extra weight just kills my wrist. after a few hours I constantly find myself going back to my $1 mouse for relief.
 
I play copious amounts of Quake, the MX700 would work beautifully... I don't think I could ever go wired from there...

I recently upgraded from the MX700 to the MX510 myself. I did it because I also had the wireless keyboard that came with it in the Cordless Elite Duo set (I think that's what it was called) and I was getting all kinds of interference with the keyboard from I'm assuming every electronic device in my room. Anyway, the MX510 seems a little more responsive but I dont think its such a drastic change that warrents spending 50 bucks on a new mouse. It's a nice mouse though if you want to get it anyway.
 
yea, like everyone else said going from an MX700 to a MX510, it would just be more convenient (IMO at least) to have a wired mouse. It would really only be worth it if you were going from an intellimouse or something :p
 
what's more convenient about a wire? as long as you remember to throw the mouse on the charger at night, and you aren't too much of a wimp to handle the extra battery weight, the wireless technology in the mx700 beats the pants off a wire any day.
 
I use a 510 as well, but I switched to it from Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 1.0 and 2.0 mice. I can't really say about the 700, as I wanted to try a corded one and since office max had it on sale for $25 when I got mine, it was definitely the choice for me. I would never remember to put the 700 in the recharger, as the MS mice don't use that...not to mention it just adds something else that would clutter my desk. I also like the look of the 510 better...but that's more just a personal opinion.
 
Don't know about the MX700 or MX510, but I know for sure there is a metal weight in the MX500 that just makes the mouse heavier, that's all. Doesn't serve any real purpose. It was killing my wrist after 30 min. frag session on UT2004, before I took it out.

And about the MX510, is there any REAL difference in the hardware of the mouse? Or is it just in software? Reason why I ask is because once you use Microsoft drivers for the MX500 instead of the mostly craptacular Logitech drivers, the point of having 800dpi is moot. It performs the same as a Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0A.

I wanna say that the hardware is identical between the Intellimouse and the Logitechs. Same optical "eye" and everything. I've also read/heard that you can use either driver with either mouse.
 
I thought he was asking between the 500 and the 510, which in that case, no I don't believe there are any differences, other than the color.
 
The only real annoyance I've encountered with my MX-510 is the little ridges of crust that build up on the mouse buttons. I've never seen anything like it... no other mouse I've ever had has had this bizzare build-up problem. Of course, it's also the first one I've had with a smooth, shiny finish instead of the usual slightly rough texture.
I can't compare it performance wise, as it's the first "gaming" mouse I've had.

Yea, pretty much never having to charge it, and the gaurente (though it isn't a problem with the MX700 I've heard) that lagging because of the mouse is not a problem. The less I have to worry about the better, lol.
 
well there is no doubt in the difference between the 500 and 510, the 510 is designed with gamers in mind, since you can program ALL the buttons for games, rather than just a few like the 700 and 500. Plus the 510 has 5.7 megapixels compared to the 4.something of the 500 and 700. I just dont think it would be worth me switching from the 700 to the 510... Id have a cord, but better response, but not worth 40$... Unless I could hook two mice up and use one for regular use and one for gaming.....

Of course. :D You can have as many mice as you want installed. Currently I have a MS Explorer PS2 ball mouse and my Logitech Optical USB mouse installed in the basement. I move the USB mouse wherever i go, when i'm on my laptop... while my parents use the explorer when i leave the desktop :)

I'm thinking of getting the MX310. What do people think? 310 vs 510?

Yup. Both will control one cursor and you can switch back and forth between them if that's your plan ;)
 
hmm, I didnt think that was possible. That might just be what I do then. Use the MX510 for gaming and the 700 for everything else. Thanks guys.
