Should I get the 9800 Pro?

My computer specs are:

P4 3.06b
intel d875pbz
1 gb corsair xms
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra
sb audigy 2

I think I messed up my GeForce 5900 Ultra by flashing the BIOS on it to the Evga performance BIOS, then re-flashing to default after lock-ups. My 3DMark '03 scores are 4703, and I know it should be higher, because about 2 months ago, the scores were in hte mid to low 5000's.

My assumption is I could have hosed up the card by flashing it, and this is why I've made several posts about upgrading something in my computer.

So, should I go ahead and get a 9800 pro like I really want to do, since I had a friend come over for a LAN, and his computer isn't any better than mine, but he has a 9800 Pro, and his games run soooo much better, and he turns up everything to max settings (FSAA all the way up). With my 5900 Ultra, I "turn things up" to 2x AA/2x AF, and I would like to play all my games at really high settings.

Besides, I know that ATi kills Nvidia in terms of more AA/AF.

Thanks.

I would hold off. Yar, I know it'd be nice... but new cards aren't far off, and it'll mean either really cheap 9800's or faster (new) cards for the same price.

he was just thinking about how much he loves his 9800pro.

I concur, get the 9800pro...great card, great price.

what wrong with the 5900, that is a nice card. i dont see why you need to upgrade to 9800 pro when your 5900 isnt that far off

EDIT: oh, didnt read your post right... in that case, go for it. im happy wiht mine.

can i have your old one...

Are you sure you messed up the card? Has something else changed, like clock speed? The newest drivers do take a hit on 03. I'd hold off until NV40/R420 come out (at the very least), then sell the 5900 and buy the better between the new cards.

did you try virus scanning and ad-ware scanning? taht can mess your processor usage up really bad, you should not go beyond 8% processor usage and for you it should not go below 5% frankly... now go forth and stop worrrying about your nice 5900 ultra!

If you want to donate it to a student-person who can use even a broken card I'd be willing to pay shipping and give you a nice .. umm mini-G3A3 airsoft gun for my thanks :).

Get the 9800 Pro! My new 9800 pro overclocks well beyond XT speeds and runs everything great.. UT2K4 ran well on my 9500 pro, with the new card I can play at 1280 with everything maxed out and 4aa 4af enabled. Far Cry, which ran ok on high settings with my 9500 PRO now runs great at 1024.. The price has also dropped, you can get a built by ATI retail card online for under 230 shipped.

I just recently bought the OEM Sapphire 9800 PRO at www.newegg.com for $212, and it's great. I can run most games at very high settings, with 4x AA and 16x AF. I get around 5600 on 3dMark03 with the newest 4.3 Omega drivers.

I'd say save your money, 3dmark is just a score man. If you can play games and are happy with it, wait it out.
Doom III isn't that far off and i'm sure we'll see price drops with that so i'd say wait it out... i'm in the same boat (well i didn't have a 5900 more like a 9500 but you know.)
