Should I get a higher processor and more ram

P4 650 3.4 with HT
2 gigs of ram

Or

P4 660 3.6 With HT
1 gig of ram

what do you think?

higher proc

there is really little need for more ram than a gig of ram

you think becuase I was gone use this system for gaming play titles like hl2, doom 3 far cry and so on?

couse dell does not make Amd processors. And alienware is way to overpriced. I do not want to build my own since Im not good at it.

If you can make a lego set, you can make a computer.

this is more complex then a lego set. I built one and it did not work right before.Plus for the same price OR less I have one already built.

Price equal? Yes

Performance equal? Not in the least.

If you find a guide and just go slowly and carefully, you'll be fine. If you have some old computers to fiddle around with and practice on, that'd be even better. That's how I learned to build one; by messing with old dells.

I think performace is close or same. Other then that fact that it is a p4 instead of a amd processor.

If you are honestly going to go the pre built route, why not buy from a better company? You should take a look at cyberpowersystem.com and check out there prebuilt options. They have amd intel and you get to customize if you want to.

And to answer your question i would go with the higher processor and 1gig of ram. There is no need for 2gigs of ram unless you are running a server, which im assuming your not.

they don't even offer a x850 xt pe card for amd and some are not even pci express. I don't know but i think im better with an dell xps gen 4 which is quite nice.

what do you think?

64 bit or 32 bit?

If you are buying prebuilt don;t buy from Dell. Buy from Monarch Computers. YOu can choose every part and it would only cost aout $50 more then actually building it yourself.

im just wondering why do you people tell me not do buy a dell ? I don't think they are bad computers. They are alright what is the big deal? Im on a dell right now that I have been using for 3 years and it never crashed on me. why the hate for them they are good computers!

you come to hard forums asking for help, these guys are just trying to get you the best bang for your buck and its a proven fact that the AMD 64's tend to be a better proc in gaming.

Overpriced
Crappy ass psus (DEER anyone)
Loaded up with extra crap
Almost 0 upgradability
Not the most stable computers ever made
And oh yeah, OVERPRICED

For a gaming PC Dell's are way too overpriced. As a PC for your mom they are fine.

dude I know amd are BETTER then p4. I already said that

Oh i do care. But the products you shown me are not what I have been looking for.

If you want us to help you tell me what that Dell PC is going to cost after the coupon and I can configure a computer at MOnarch pre-built that performs better and is cheaper most likely.

You could build an SLI rig witrh 2x 6800GT's for that price probably.

tell me about it... he is spending 2200 dollars pc that would probably run games slower than my 1 year old 1500 dollar machine.

yea and why do you think that? couse I choose intel?

Alright. This thread is shaping-up as either a troll perhaps, or it's turning into a flame war.

You all decide how this goes, and see if it gets closed. Up to you.

Have an enjoyable Holiday Weekend. :)

About the only thing Intel beats AMD in is video encoding. Almost anything else AMD would perform better or the same in at a lower price.
