Should I get a fan filter?

To get straight to the point..

I own an Antec Super Lanboy case, with a 120mm intake fan on front and another exaust fan on back (also 120mm). I plan on putting another 120 intake fan on to the side window. I recently removed the grill covering the front intake fan (pic ) which lowered my CPU temp by about 3*C and my system temp by about 2-3*C. What I'm worried about is dust. With two 120 intake fans, I can imagine that becoming a problem. How much would putting a filter onto the front 120 fan restrict airflow? Thanks! :)

Well If I were you I wouldnt put a Fan filter seems like alot more air restriction and at the end dust will still get in. Just dust the insides more often. :D

*edit* for some reason when you said filter thought you meant the Filters like the ones in the air purifiers.. iono :D
 
Does the Super Lanboy even have room somewhere that allows for efficient mounting of a filter?
 
I had my system running 4 days without filters and I notices acouple dead flying bugs, and some dust on the bottom of my Lanboy. I found these on ebay, I can hardly see a differnce in airflow. I would recommend getting different fans for the front and rear. The stock antec ones don't push hardly any air compared to the TT Thunderblades I got. I switch the antec to the top and side. I might even replace the side intake to another Thunderblade. If you end up getting these type of filters note that for the front I had to smash the curved part for each screw hole, I had to make it flat with a hammer(took 3 seconds) and then it fit on the front. The screws holding the front fan on are not very leanent for fan filters.. but you'll get it.

I've got the same filter on my side intake, just black. Please do set it up so that the fan pulls air through the filter, not pushes. A lot less backpressure and noise, and more airflow.

Just wondering, CuriousJorge, will the front plastic grille fit over the 120mm fan + filter? The case looks like it's missing something without that grille.
 
Thanks very much guys! Sounds like a filter will be in order for my my front/side fans. For right now I've cut out some gutter-cover to keep my toes intact, but should just be temporary. And thanks for the pics/link CuriousJorge! Those came in a lot of handy. :)

Great, I've been considering the Super Lanboy for some builds for friends (they want bling++), and was concerned that it didn't have room for a filter of any kind, thanks for the reassurance! Those filters work great... just gotta clean them out from time to time.
