Should I buy a 2007WFP?

Originally I had no intentions of buying a widescreen LCD and I was going to go with a standard 19" LCD, but after reading through many threads it seems to be that standard 19" LCDs look un-natural and that 20.1" widescreens are the sweetspot. I'm still pretty skeptical of buying a 2007wfp. My questions are:

1). Is there any chance that I would not receive a rev A02 2007wfp?

2). Would I have any problems playing older games (i.e. UT99) since it is a widescreen monitor?

3). Is it true that the monitor goes on sale every few weeks?

My new build is in the mail and this is essentially the last piece of the puzzle. I know the 2007wfp goes for 459 on the dell site and I am waiting for it to go on sale. Any other suggestions for an LCD thats under $400? I wouldnt mind buying a GOOD 17" LCD with zero problems and excellent colors, if such an LCD exists, but would that be dumb of me to go "small"? Is buying a "new" 2007WFP still a gamble? Any input would be appreciated, I am pretty clueless at this point and I would like to order by Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks

Didn't the 2007WFPs go down to $350 a while back or something.

There is a chance you won't get a A02. Just cross-ship it back through Dell RMA.

I believe it was $160 in mid July. I'm not sure if that was an accident or what? Anyone know anything about that, or if it will happen again? I have read that it goes on sale from time to time to around $370, can anyone verify that? Is the 2007WFP worth purchasing or does it still have too many problems? Any other suggestions are welcome.

The $160 was an accident.

It goes on sale just about every other week, but I've never seen it down to $160.

From what I've read so far, it seems like a really good monitor. The banding fix from the A02 revision applies only to the desktop mode, yet not the gaming and movie mode. From what I hear, there's not a big difference between the modes, so watching movies and playing games will still be fine on desktop mode.

Aside from that, I've heard very good things about the display, but my knowledge isn't as broad as other's on this board so hopefully you get some more input.

Yes it's a great monitor. Never buy it for regular price though.

Exactly, regular price is $459... Usually goes down to $369 every now and then (every other week or something).... just add the link as a favorite and check it everytime you get on your pc... and yeah, the $160 was a mistake, but apparently some people got in on it before they fixed the price about 20 minutes later...

Try the Dell refurb link, they have 2007's for $329 all the time... It's through Dell so it should still have a good warranty, probably the older revision though???

For the price Acer and Viewsonic also have some good 20's for ~$300

Thanks for the replies, I will most likely wait til it goes on sale to pick one up. Anyone know if there will be any resolution issues with older games?

No issues. The monitor allows you to choose 1:1 pixel scaling, 4:3 fill scaling, or widescreen fill scaling.

be sure you use one of the $XX off coupons. I have one for $25 off $200 I don't need. People post them in Slickdeals.net.

hmm, Im thinking of buying this too, but Im not sure...

Why do you say that you shouldnt buy it without the special sale price? Is is not worth it or why?
Is there a better 20" WS monitor to go for instead of the 2007WFP for lower price (standard price)?

I would like to have a good 20" WS monitor for games, 3D, movies etc etc... with internal scaling (1:1, making me able to play 4:3-games with black bars instead of streching), HD and a stand with adjustable height... Is this the monitor to go for or is there any other alternatives?

btw. if I get a monitor with internal scaling, I will be able to scale, even with ATI-cards, right?

I have an ati card and can scale fine through the monitor. The reason why people say don't pay regular price for the dell is because they go on sale so often. Why pay regular price if the sale price is just as regular?

You're looking at the lucky bastard who found and posted the deal. I scored three of them. :D :D :D

I say go for it, but definetely wait for it to go on sale. Dell takes close to $100 off it, so definetely wait for the savings. The monitor looks great, and all three of mine were A02, so I think you're pretty safe there. There's zero banding, this thing just looks straight-up amazing. DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!!

Hmm, ok, how often do the monitor go on sale? Im about to buy new comp system next week or so... want it at the same time... dont wanna wait several weeks or months for it...

btw. do they get same monitors on sale at the same time in all countries or is it various? (im located in Sweden)

Sales vary by country. Not sure how often they go on sale in sweden though. Here in canada the monitor goes on sale for 15% off almost every other week. If you want more, than you have to wait for the 14 days of dell day deals which only happen every 3 months or so.
That's how I picked up the 2007wfp for 33% off, instead of the 15% it normally goes on sale for.

ahh ok... Well, Im not sure how long I will wait... Althro I have a student discount on Dell monitors of 5% so Ill have to pay 660,80 EUR / 846,53 USD.
Worth it?

The 2007wfp got HDCP, right? What is that exactly? is that making me able to hook it up to this new gen game consoles, ex. ps3, Wii and xbox360? or would I need an adapter or something, or would it simply not work?

HDCP is HD content protection. It's for protecting the precious DVI and HDMI Video signals from being pirated from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs (and possibly HD TV.. don't remember). XBox and PS3 games don't use it, but at some point HD movies might. The studios said they aren't going to implement it for a while, but they're a bunch of idiots so who knows.

Does the 2007 have it? it would be good just for future-proofing.

How do you tell if you get a revision A02?

It says the version number on the box and it is on the UPC/serial # tag on the back of the panel.

Ah , in that case I got an A02.
