I'm not having the best PC day.

I'm trying to set up SickRage + Plex on my desktop as well as a number of series.
I've been working on this the past few days. This involves lots of downloading and moving large amounts of files around. Software is in C:\, Downloads are in D:\ and processed files are in F:\

This is not very easy to set up, which is fine because I'm enjoying the process.
The issue is that today I was having trouble with uTorrent and video playback, and the computer wouldn't shut down. uTorrent wouldn't close even with end process tree. I was forced to do a hard reset reinstall uTorrent.

Things seem to be getting better. The reinstalled uTorrent isn't locking up my computer. The reason I was trying to kill uTorrent was that I was having trouble accessing my D drive. If I tried to move around in it with explorer, explorer or windows would crash.

This got me thinking about the health of my drives. I know about CrystalDiskInfo, and I've attached screen shots. Can I get some feed back on if I should be concerned. I'm a PhD student, so while I would love a shiny new 3-4tb drive I don't relish the thought of paying for one.

1TB drives are cheap. That one is on its way out. Might be a few days, could be several months. Really up to you if it's worth the potential aggravation to save ~$40... or whatever a 1TB Seagate costs these days. :)
 
Are both drives dying or just the one on the left?
Nothing of much importance is on the drive, how long does it have Doc?

I'm in the UK, on a budget. Want to go bigger if I need to replace it.
1tb drives are cheap but not the best value.
What drives are being recommended at this time?
I would probably install some games on it and use it for downloads and media.

Unless I'm mistaken, you've provided a screenshot of the same drive twice.
 
In my opinion F: is possibly okay (although it can't read 6 sectors it wrote/ lost data). D: is most likely dying with 969 reallocated sectors and 21 sectors with lost data.

Edit:
You may want to backup F when get a new drive for D: and then test F: as well. I use a 4 pass read / write badblocks on linux for testing all drives. A 4TB will take over 50 hours to complete this test. If you are not comfortable with linux a few full formats followed by looking at the SMART will be a reasonable test.

I have one 3TB Seagate with the same symptom as your D Drive.

the HD always randomly dropped from raid.
smartctl(under linux) warned on healthy status
RMA it if still under warranty or backup your data to your new HD

If I only had one... I RMA 10 to 20 of these each year although the warranties are up on most of our Seagate drives. That is except for the 20 or so constellation ES.3 drives I purchased this year.
 
So... I was just offered editing work which should cover most of the cost of the drive...

Secondly, anyone from the UK...is amazon prime the best choice, should I be waiting for December for a sale? I don't have anything important on the drive.
 
I would rank them in reverse order from what you listed so WD Caviar 3TB WD30EZRX would be the drive to get.
 
Interesting, given the the WD is a green drive I thought the 7200rpm Seagate would have taken the recommendation.
The WD drives seems to be a little old...2010? are any new budget 3tb drives expected to come out any time soon?

I would like to point out that the 1TB drive reports a maximum lifetime temperature of 58°C.
That is quite hot and if the drive operates at such temperatures for extended times, it can lead to its death.
 
That is an old drive, that has been through a few builds.
I don't think it ever goes over 32 in the case it's in now.

so far... one 3TB this year.
with in 2 years, 10 HD were already RMA, Seagate and WD HDs :D...


still loves 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500Gb, those HDs just keep working and working :D. I think the warranty was 5 years. all already expired!, those drived moved from Hardware Raid to ZFS (ZFS on Linux under centos 6.X) in 2012.

constellation HDs are a way way way..........above my budget :D

I am thinking to buy white lable HDs from ebay, the seller give 1 year warranty......
any tthought?
