Should I add a second 4890?

Greetings,

Question for you folks,

my rig currently has a phenom 2 940 with a single 4890 and a 8800gt (for physx)

i just found a posting for a used 4890 listed for $180 (canadian). if you were me, would you hold out for the dx11 gen cards to drop in price, or would it be worth it to grab a second 4890?

i play at 1920x1080 resolution and do play games like crysis, bad company 2 on occasion.

what would you suggest?

doesn't make sense to buy a extra 4890 if you only play occasionally.

I would just hold onto the single 4890 for now. From most accounts, AMD''s next gen will be out near winter, and that should drive down cost on 5850 and 5870s since people will be selling theirs to buy the new cards.

The 4890 is still a very respectable card, even at 1080p. I still have mine running strong in a secondary rig.

that sucks, there's one near me on CL for $120, I'm thinking about grabbing it... but not sure if it's worth adding to my 4870 or waiting...

For $120, that's actually a pretty good value for a card that used to go for $200 and also will beat a 5770 head to head. If you don't need DX11, I don't see why not.

At $180 I would wait though. I'm not sure what Canadian prices are like but that sound high to me for old hardware.
