I have an audigy2 zs soundcard and a set of logitech Z-680 speakers. I have cmss enabled in the audigy drivers. Will this mess up the surround sound in games or does the game just ignore this.

Thanks

Well, it shouldn't, but if you're paranoid, you can always try it. Simply go to a training mission and throw a lot of grenades or something so that you have sounds coming from all around you, and then check whether the sounds are coming from the right places.

I had a problem with this too....

CMSS will take a stereo signal and play the signal through you surround sound. Now if you are in a game then it automatically turns off CMSS.

So you can keep it on, when you playing music you will have all your speakers playing. Since Music is in Stereo, its the same signal being played through all the speakers.

Correct me if im wrong

Thanks Everyone. That is what I thought but wanted to make sure. No point in having surround speakers if the surround effects are being muddled by my soundcard, lol.

CMSS does not interfere with games that output more than 2 channel audio.

I tried the Painkiller demo. When the audio is set to 2 channel, CMSS would kick in and I would hear audio through all channels, albeit the same sounds as stereo. When I change it to 5.1, I get true 5.1 surround sound through EAX 3.

<Insert obvious comment about the quality of EAX here>
