Shorted my power supply

This is kinda funny

I stuck a screwdriver into my power supply fan so that I could test noise levels without the fan. Well even though the computer was off, it sparked. Now my computer wont start. Do I need a new case? Did I cause damage to other parts of the computer.

i hope you didnt blow other components in your system too. put another pws in there and pray to god that it boots .

Your computer was off, but the fan was spinning? If it was off, then you shouldn't need to use a screwdriver to stop the fan... it wouldn't be spinning! Or did you have it rigged to start without a mobo? If so... why was it hooked up to the rest of the components

Actually, some power supplies are set up to run the fan with the computer powered down, in order to remove heat from the system. I have a superflower power supply (one of the ones with the one big 12cm fan on the bottom) that does that. It will also light up the led's on the fan when it does that, and does it too when I first plug in and switch the power on to the power supply.

After a few minutes, it shuts down. :)

Sigh, I knew that, I don't know why I didn't think of it though.

On a similar funny note, I just realized my moderately loud computer was so loud because my Super Flower switching power supply was always set on Turbo. It's on Thermostat now, and it barely runs. I guess when I RMA'd it I got a slightly different model and never noticed that it has a thermostat setting.
