dunno if this is a repost or if everyone has read it already, but it's a gleam of hope for those, including me, wanting the X800XL in an AGP non-AIW card.

How much should it be going for? I was going to wait until I upgraded to a pci-e motherboard before upgrading my video card, but this looks tempting.

Why dont you schmucks just buy a PCI-E board. You can buy a PCI-E board and a PCI-E x800xl for the cost of an AGP x800xl lol.

and because I just bought an A64 mobo and 3000+ CPU (couple months ago). I was planning on getting a 6800GT AGP the whole time so I didn't need PCI-E. Since this could be cheaper and just as fast (faster in CS:S, the game i play most) I figure it might be worth considering. Not to mention I'm not going to see the slightest performance gain with PCI-E.

No but your upgrade path for AGP is going to continue to become more limited and you might as well sell your AGP board and upgrade to PCI-E now while the AGP board is still actually worth something.

All i'm saying is that i wouldn't pay a premium price for an AGP X800XL when it makes more sense to buy a PCI-E board and a PCI-E X800XL if you dont have to upgrade your processor to do it. AGP is being phased out and the cost will be higher then the PCI-E versions.

The nForce 4 boards outperform the nForce 3 and VIA chipset boards in the majority of the benches. Your right in that its not a huge difference but in certain applications and games its as much as you would see between to likespeed video cards like the 6800GT and x800xl. The Asus VIA K8T800 chipset board that you have is one of the lowest performing ones in the mix if you have seen any of the more recent reviews.

The MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum and DFI Ultra-D are also two of the best overclocking boards available. The DFI Ultra-D offers much higher voltages for the CPU and RAM and the nForce 4 chipset isn't limited to the 1000Mhz speed even though the HTT link doesn't affect perferformance much.

And my input is about the card itself and all i'm saying is that it would be worth it to move to a PCI-E board so you'll have a better upgrade path for cards that will most assuredly be priced cheaper then the AGP versions.

I know what your saying about having just upgraded and not wanting to buy another board but i just bought an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum in December and sold it for $100 about a month ago to buy a DFI Ultra-D for my PCI-E x800xl i got for $240 from ATI.

But hey, if you want to just stick with AGP then by all means go right ahead.

That Sapphire version isn't priced too bad even though i saw a PCI-E version for $262 on pricewatch the other day.
 
Since the agp x800xl isnt cheaper than the x800pro, why not just get a pro?

Because the x800xl is 16 pipelines and faster then the 12 pipeline x800pro unless your able to get a VIVO thats not laser cut so you can unlock the extra 4 pipes.

lowest PCI-E X800XL I see currently on Pricewatch is $284. That would leave you $30 for a motherboard...

And since the AGP X800XLs are just reaching stores, it seems reasonable to expect the price to drop even further quickly

The Sapphire AGP OEM version at Newegg for $315 is a pretty good price but when your upgradeing video cards you might as well upgrade to a PCI-Express motherboard instead of buying a video card you can't use any more when you upgrade the mobo.

It was just a suggestion ;).
 
I struggled with this same issue. I rma'ed mt 6800GT AGP, and bought an ATI X800XL Pci-e for $395 cdn. I thought about it for a long time. It's better to pawn off your "old" stuff and go pci-e, honestly. Surely you can sell your stuff to one of your freinds/family.

This forum is all about [H]stuff. O/C it, benchmark it, sell it, buy new, and do it all over again.
If you wanted to type letters and play cod at 1024 all day, you would'nt be [H]ere

lots of people here like the newest stuff. If you can get deals on latest parts and sell them before they drop too much (ebay :p ), it doesn't really cost that much.
 
retail version gets you some more software, longer warranty and a pretty box.

VIVO = video in, video out. (you can plug in other devices into your computer)

I've had an AGP XL for the last week. The card isn't that long, quite heavy but that's due to the heatsink I guess. Overclocks quite well too (455/545 so far).
 
Despite all the e-penis waving, it's reasonable to buy what you can afford and not what makes someone else's e-member throb.
 
Prettynice, I notice the heatsink seems bigger, plus it has the power plug at the back, should be a better OCer then the PCI-E version...
 
Violator how loud is the fan. I was seeing on the pci Sapphire they had the loudest fan on a review of 8 different models.

tried any oc yet?

just ordered my saphire x800xl agp off newegg...should be here next week....wEeeee....i so cant wait for it....will let you guys know how loud the fan is asap

Burning might have come off a little harsh to some people, but after switching to a PCIe board and the X800XL, I agree with him.

I had the Neo 2 Platinum and a PNY 6800NU. I sold them both, and I now have the Neo 4 Platinum and the BBA X800XL. Going to the Neo 4 got me six more useable SATA ports (2 of the 4 SATA's on the Neo 2 aren't lockable, so I don't count them when comparing to the 8 SATA ports of the Neo 4), and I've found that the NForce4 NIC is the fastest I've ever seen. Odd, but my downloads are quite a bit faster and my connection doesn't bog down the way it did under many simultaneous TCP connections like my NForce2 and NForce3 boards both did. I absolutely love this board, and the ATI card in PCIe comes out to about $289 with shipping from ATI direct if you use the 10% off coupon. The only reason I wouldn't shell the bucks to do a complete switch is if you're on a tight budget and currently have an Athlon XP system, but then I'd say skip a vid card this high-end anyway, and go with a Geforce 6600GT.

The ATI card also spanks my 6800NU (as it would any 6800GT or Ultra too) in HD video playback, due to the borked video processor on most 68xx cards. The fan is quiet, and the card doesn't demand a lot of power (doesn't even need a PCIe power connector). I had to sell some additional old gear I didn't use to make up the slack between my old board and graphics card and the prices of the new stuff, but it was worth it.

im hoping it should almost double the performance of my 9800pro...i think im physically excited about this...this is the first high end graphics card ive owned...got the 9800pro after it had been usurped by the x series....

with the XL you can probably turn up the AA and AF to 4x and 8x, I bet if you use 2xAA and 2x (or none) AF you can get to 1280x1024 playable.
