Short term upgrade for Battlefield 2?

I want to be able to play BF2 with good frames and decent quality, and doing so means that I would probably be best off upgrading my video card. I'm looking at maybe a 6600GT. I know this isn't going to be enough when stuff like Unreal 3 starts hitting the shelves, but I'm planning on getting a part-time job this winter to finance some heavy upgrades. So, do you think I'd be happy with BF2 on a 6600GT? I'm not looking to turn everything up with AA/AF, just get at least 60 fps on medium details, or some such.

well, with the 6600gt, it should do 1024x760 high details with some AA/AF, imo, BF2 doesn't look anymore demanding than sounter strike source, which the 6600gt would run 1280x1024 high details just fine, but if I am wrong, a 6600gt would be great for BF2

i don't think anyone knows how BF2 will perform yet on current hardware

i don't know what in-game graphics options it will have

hmm, I suppose the best course of action would be to lay low until they release their purported demo mid-June, then check and see what kind of performance people are getting...

If you're that concerned with BF2, I would wait for the BF2 reviews and benchmarks.

Then it will be up to you to interpret the results with thousands of phanbois screaming that grapix company X pwned the other.

yah, I agree..I was gonna mention this, but forgot and went and took a shower hehe.

Im gonna buy a 512MB XL when it hits 400$, but i go a little nutso with the hardware.

lol, ur kidding right, you dont think the extra memory on an XL will improve anything? 99% of benchmarks shows there is no gain with the 512 version compared to the 256mb XL, the only game, ONE game that gave a tiny boost was HL2 lol. a 400 x850xt would beat the crap outta any 512mb XL

yea those 512 cards do nothing cept for a larger E-penis, oh and .4 ( or something like that) fps faster at 1600 by 1200 at top AA/AF

and Id wait to see what that 9600xt can do in the game.. if it sucks Then upgrade to something even better than a 6600 GT or 6800 Non ultra, or they will be cheaper then

Well, the thing is I'm supposed to be squirreling away my dollars earned this summer to put toward housing expenses for the next couple of semesters, so I don't want to be dropping over 200 bucks on a video card. I figured a 6600GT would be a nice middle-of-the-road card that I wouldn't feel bad upgrading from in 6 months or a years time when I have the funds to focus on my gaming rig.

pipes don't equal everything

the 6600GT has more default fillrate

6800NU = 325MHz x 12 pipes = 3.9 G/pixels fillrate

6600GT = 500MHz x 8 pipes = 4 G/pixels fillrate

now of course if you overclock the 6800 NU then you'll get higher gains over the 6600GT

just thought i'd put that out there

the 6800 NU does have more memory bandwidth however

well yea if u already have a gig of ram
the go for the 6600gt youll be fine

at e3 they were using p4 3.0, 1 gig of ram, and a fx5900xt or whatever and people said it ran smooth as hell
the 6600gt is better than the fx5900 so yea
