Shoddy router or misconfiguration?

My roomate and I bought a D-Link DI-524 router to use since Comcast only gives you 1 unique IP. Well since we hooked this up about once per night my latency to just about every server (google, CS servers, WoW servers) goes from ~40ms to 400-800ms. When I log in to the box and reboot it things usually stay fixed for the remainder of the night. I've tried using options to "Demilitarize" my connection to the router, turned on and off "gaming mode" and none of it seems to change the problem. Is this thing just a crappy piece of hardware or is it still possible that I have a misconfiguration.

BTW, when I hook straight to the cable modem, this does not occur and wireless is turned off.
