Well I shipped a pc via usps from Indiana to New York I sold to a friend. The heatsink it had was the CM GeminiII. Well the base of the heatink and the heatpipes seperated during shipping, so the large heatsink/fans were rumbling around in the case during some point in shipping. It apparently knocked the video card good and pulled off a jumper, and the video card doesn't work either. I went ahead and bought a new heatsink for the user and will either send the video card in for warranty or soldier it myself when I get it back.. but just a heads up - when you're shipping a heatsink that heavy, it might be a good idea to remove it prior to shipping and ask the user (as long as it isn't a grandma) to put it back on the cpu upon reciept.

wow. shipping that heavy thing like that is a no no. the heatsink is already over the weight requirement and is barely ok just when the computer is sitting still. good advice still, thanks for the pics and honesty :)

The GPU should be an easy fix.

But...I cannot believe you shipped it with the cooler mounted. Just wow...

You shouldn't have overlooked the heatsink. It's a fat kid on a trampoline once it's loose in the case.

Did this transaction ocurr here on the Hardforums? if not this will get locked.

Nice pics though. I would have packed each component in anti-static and bubble wrap and tossed them in the case.

Why would it?

Agreed. This is useful advice for anyone shipping complete computers- we often assume that "assembled" is synomymous with "ship-able." This is not the case.

Wow, this is th efirst time (that I can remember) that a Mod has kept open a thread for a transaction that did not ocurr here. I guess there's a first time for everything ...

Maybe us new mods are a new breed... better... stronger... faster... And soon, our super-army will be complete! :p

Maybe use a box that has a "THIS SIDE UP" so that the heatsink's weight is always coming down onto to the CPU? Of course, you'll probably still get that shipping employee who's just pissed at life and end up throwing the box down and doing whatever with it.

You know those labels don't mean anything and are disregarded by most employees, right?

Yup, but the shipping company is liable if you can prove damages occurred in shipping because the company/employees failed to ship the item appropriately, and that the labels were clearly marked (at least UPS, USPS, FedEx, and DHL provide this as part of their shipping 'contract'). I'd hate to be the $10/hr employee that gets fired for ignoring a simple label like that!

it's a gemini II ... those things are tanks... fully capable of bending/cracking motherboards. Great heatsink, but def. remove that kinda heatsink before shipment.

... better... stronger... faster... ! :p
