shipping a processor

find a plastic housing with some kind of foam at the bottom to protect the pins, then close it up nice and snug in the plastic container then put peanuts or whatever around that in the shipping box
 
do you have any of the original packaging?

if not, find a box that has the solid styrofoam pieces in it the softer foam type (the type the peanuts are made of)

cut out two 3x3 or 4x4 inch squares roughly, nothing exact here, carefully place bottom (pins) side of cpu on one of the pieces of foam and gently press the pins into the foam, this will prevent pin damage in transport, then cut out a small divot or recess, the size of the top of the CPU on the other block of foam, lay it on top of the CPU, tape the two halves together well, then box it up and ship it ;)

The original plastic container it came in. If you threw that away, rocks will do just fine.

 
Supposodly, that styrofoam peanuts produce a shitload of static electricity, i would maybe think twice about using them ?
 
just use some foam, like the same foam that comes inside a motherboard box. sandwich the cpu like mentioned above. As long as you have it so it wont move around inside the packaging it will be fine.
 
Butcher paper FTW! Just wrap it up like a cut of meat and ship it in an icebox. Still be fresh when it arrives.

Better find the original packaging for the best method, otherwise make sure to use "anti-static" foam (can be had at U'r local RadioShack) and a stactic bag to wrap arround that. Once you have them in a safe protective environment, you can use other forms of shipment protection to nestle it into.
 
Peanuts do produce a lot of static electricity however, if you put it in some sort of decent thickness plastic and then in the peanuts, the plastic should be more than efficient at protecting it from the static floating around. Bubble wrap might even be a good try if you are really that concerned though.
 
Best thing : Use the original package to ship. If you cannot find one at your house, you can easily ask a local computer store for some empty CPU boxes since they will surely build a few with retail boxes.
 
Use the plastic that the cpu came with and some bubble wrap. =]
