Hi I need some adivce regarding shipping a case 9searched and got no results)

I want to ship a rocketfish case but I don't have the original foam or box. I think I'll go buy a box from U-Haul but anyone know where how I can ship it safely? I shipped out a case once and it got to the buyer completely destroyed.. so please some help, thanks.

best case scenario is take the raw case to a UPS store, Fedex, or mailboxes etc; and just say "pack this"

it'll cost, but without the original box, it's really your best route.

if you do ship yourself however, bubble wrap won't really work for a heavy case. Foam would be better suited.

Go around to your local grocery stores, hardware stores, etc and see if they have any boxes that are about the size your case will fit in. They may also have the white foam inserts that you could cut to fit.

This is honestly your last option. I did that once and it cost me almost $40 to ship a $40 case.

I have done this before. Home Depot and Best Buy are your best options. Walmart crushes their boxes after they are done with them, at least the one near me does that...

Appreciate the help. I'll look for boxes there

my main question is the packing. Where can I get foam? How should I pack the inside?

thanks.

If you're shipping just a case, you don't need to fill in the inner void or worry about that at all.
I would strongly advice against peanuts. Many layers of bubble wrap may be fine, depending on the weight of the case. Solid foam is your best option. If you're skillful with a razor blade, fitting the case to scavenged foam isn't terribly difficult.
However, if it's a whole computer you're sending, you'll want to do things like remove the heatsink(s) and wrap the separately. Depending on the case design, hard drive removal might also be necessary. Those are the two things most likely to go ballistic and damage everything if they came loose

I use an old serrated steak knife. You can usually find the foam at grocery and produce stores as they tend to ship alot of produce in foam crates.

i second this, however its going to cost you a arm and a leg, i will no longer sell cases and ship them out, i got nailed

Shipped out a CM810, cost 68 to ship and 40 to pack it. I charged 30 to Ship, so yea i got nailed but that was my own fault for not thinking ahead about packaging expenses etc. and Also the fact that most shippers now Charge you by the dimensions/weight combo instead of just the weight. FYI

Another reason why I keep my case boxes+foam :)

Then just ship UPS ground which is usually the cheapest for bigger items...

I did throw away my rocketfish box (cause it was huge) and I figure I only paid $48 for it, I'm not going to replace it anytime soon so I don't mind beating it up :)

make sure you get an estimate before you ship! I was sending my broken TV out to get fixed and asked them to pack it, they charged a ton of money just to pack it, then it made the dimensions huge so it cost even more to ship it.

Did they throw in some lead weights as well?:p

If you don't have the original box+foam you can use a 2 part foam mix in a bag. I've done it before, works pretty good, + is a perfect form fit.

I've shipped a few cases with good results. If you don't have the original and custom packing, use double boxing, if possible. I also had good results with bubble wrap, or air bladders around the case, then cut up pieces of cardboard surrounding that and peanuts, or whatever else I had stuffed between the cardboard and outer box. The intermediate cardboard helps to spread the force of the knocks it takes in route. If the case has removeable drive bays, you might want to use strapping tape or tie-waps to help hold them. Last, it's nice to run a couple loops of strapping tape around the outside of the case before you pack to keep everything nice and tight. GL!

just something you could try.

foam all sides. bubblewrap the case. put flat boxes all around the case. tape tape and ship!

+1 for everyone with their great ideas. FOAMs come in so many sizes but so hard to find?

I actually had good luck shipping a completed antec 300 build. I used the stock foam and box, then filled all the voids with packing peanuts from a newegg shipment :).

I also had some antistatic bubble wrap that I put in the case, to keep things from getting jostled around.
