Shimmering with 2405FPW?

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone else with a 2405fpw has experienced this sort of shimmering effect that you see on certain colors. It's almost as if the colour is vibrating or similiar to when you are running a CRT at 60hz and you notice that it's so bright that it seems like it's vibrating. I usually see it happen on grey colors but I've also seen it happen on some other colors as well. It's not a very strong shimmering, in fact, you won't even notice it until you really look at it. Mostly on the left side of my screen.

Can someone tell me if this is something that usually happens with LCD's or if it's some sort of defect because this is my first LCD I've ever owned so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. It's not that big of an issue currently, but, would this sort of thing get worse as I go? I don't want to let it go too long because if I have the oppurtunity to get a replacement now I would prefer that.

If it is a defect, I would presume Dell would send me a replacement due to this reason alone, no?

Thanks,

Darius

I see something that could be compared to that when I watch things like HD NBA games. The court is very bright and colorful and during fast color changes i do see something strange but I assumed this was just the LCDs response being a little too slow to handle the very high speed.

However, with slightly slower content, like DISC HD, it looks flawless.

I also turned my sharpness down on my component inputs from my HD cable box and that helped.

Hope this helps a little...

One more comment, every now and then I switch from HDTV to reg TV just to reassure myself and I'm always very happy with the difference. This monitor is not perfect but it smokes what I had - a 22" CRT.

If you have an ATI video card, try checking the option in the display settings to turn down the DVI frequency for high resolution flat panel displays. Maybe you can do the same thing for nvidia, but I'm not sure. I don't know that this will even help but its worth a try.
