Alright guys, I took the shim off of my 9700 Pro to install a waterblock on it. The first 2months everything was going fine till my pump died cause of power outages:mad: I got a new pump and redid the whole water setup and everything was going fine till........I started seeing black flickers on my monitor and all of a sudden my video feed died:eek: Do you guys think that if I crazy glue the shim back on I might be able to RMA the card? (some how water got onto the GPU)

You were the one taking the risk by moding the card. Dont scam ATI when you know it wasnt 100%.. you voided the warrently as soon as the first push pin was out. Just take the loss at this point, the 9800 pro's are very cheap now (well compared to a few months ago).

It's funny when I see people here talk about morals and ethics and such.

It's those types of people who do that type of RMA scam, and simply hop on a forum and thrash everyone who's thinking of saving themselvs a few bucks when its in regards to a large corp who will not even lose a single penny.

jagok1, take the chance of doing it. If the RMA department of that company is too stupid to notice it, then they deserve to get smacked like that. Maybe they'll hire a staff that can actually see.

dont be an ass. especially with only 5 posts.

and please read about economics.

do you own a business? if so, tell the name.. i, as well as some of the forum members here, will buy and break your shit on purpose and then return it!...lets see how many 'pennnies' you lose.

if you hadnt taken off the shim, you could have easily rma'ed it.
but without a shim, i doubt they will take it, but id try anyway just for the hell of it.

I wouldn't do it if I were you, but then again that's just me.

Just swallow the accident, because that's just the chance you take with a watercooled computer period. Buy a new video card, they aren't that expensive; newegg has OEM 9800 Pros for $210

haha that was a good one. And absolutely correct too.

First you remove the shim.

Then you change cooling.

Then your exchange cooling fail and you get water on your GPU.

Well I guess it wasn´t your fault it was ATI:s

I think you know that you shouldn´t RMA it. Sure email the ATI employees and if they tell you to RMA it for god sake do it. Otherwise forget about it.

I just had my 9700 PRO die on me. I had installed a heatpipe on it as well as I had patched a broken pipeline on it. Should I have RMA:d that one???

I just took the plunge and got a 9800 PRO for 250$ very well knowing that will be the worst deal I will ever make.

jagok1, you voided the warranty when you modded the card and you know that. Let's not go on about defrauding the company for your own mistakes.
