shifty Philips monitors

I'm in market for two new monitors so i've been checking specs on the net on different brands (BenQ, Hyundai, Mitsubishi(DiamondView), Samsung, Sony, ViewSonice, etc and "Philips).

I got all the information i needed on manufacturers website, EXCEPT Philips.
They WON'T tell you SPECS on 95% of their monitors? wat da fxks up with that???? are they THAT BAD?
I had 17" Philips 107B about 5 years ago n it was good, upto 1920x1440 res, etc n i was very happy with it but looks like i'll NEVER buy Philips again..

If there were some standard spec that everyone had to live up too and send their monitor there for testing, specs might, and I repeat MIGHT make sense as a place to start comparing.

There is no such place, all the makes do their specs in their own controlled conditions, thus rendering any comparison useless.

Same holds true for audio and video gear and of course speakers.

There are Federal Trade Commission specs…and they will do testing at a cost, no one wants to pay that cost. Not to mention some companies are very optimistic with there testing and other companies are way more conservative.

Slightly off topic, but as an example, Sony make receivers rated at a given power. Believe it or not, they actually meet FTC Specs, but are not tested. Sony also makes the Sony ES line of receivers and they rate them at a true 4-ohm load, but, those are submitted for testing. The “Specs” between regular Sony and Sony ES appear to be very close…until you listen.

Same with all monitors…Look at them. Most have similar specs, none look the same. Go shopping, do as I did, make the store hook each one up your interested in and buy want you like.

Don’t play the numbers game…you can’t win that way, honest.
