hell no you dont, jsut got my NV5 Silencer Revision 3 cut and installed on my XFX 7900GT and not only is it 100000% quiter its running my baby at a cool 39 idle, used to sit in the 40s before, now the loudest thing in my case is the 4120mm fans(2 intake, one exit and one PSU) and the north bridge cooler, im waiting for one more package of stuffs for my comp, after taht shes done and ill have pics for you all :)

oh ya i HIGHLY recomond this cooler
 
sounds better than my 2x120mm 108cfm sunon, 2x120mm antec fans, 1x120mm generic, 2x70mm stock amd fans and an 80mm tornado :p
surprisingly, the chipset fan on my dfi is the most annoying

i should build something quiet someday. might be fun

I had an old FOP38 with the Delta fan on it. YIKES!!! Sounded like a hair dryer all the way across the house. LOL
 
oh im loving this, used to be able to hear my comp from upstairs with our mircowave on, now i cant even hear it one room away :)
 
I used to have 4 120x38 delta's (the 220cfm 65 db) and 2 120x79's. I swear, it would take off occasionally and disconnect itself from the network.

That, or the ethernet cable sucked.

does anyone have the decibel thing?

and is 40db for a 170cfm (120mm) loud/audible/quit?
 
I bought a different one for my 7800GT but maybe I should try this one for my second card, since it now supports 7800 series.

Or maybe not, guess it is quite big.

i find it ironic that i'm hearing impaired but have a better understanding of sound than most people :p

40db isn't quite what i would call loud, but it'll definitly get on your nerves after about 30 seconds... especially if it's a fan over ~2500rpm
 
I don't like my comp anywhere over 24 dB. If I can hear it with the TV on then there's a problem. If I can hear it from across the room when the room is silent, there's a problem. If I have to learn over in my chair to hear the GPU cooler... well, I can deal with that.

I was curious about those silencers. What are you using for fans?

me? im useing the one that came with it :p

as for case fans, im useing hte 2 ADDA 120mms that came with my v1000b, what ever brand OCZ has in its PSU and im pretty sure god himself dont know what kind of fan im useing in my drive bays, its quite and it blows more then monika lewinsky does(heh i kill my self, hahaha ) :D
