After running 1.68v core and 2.83 memory, 610/1000, for 4 mounths straight...my GPU died wile playing BF Vietnam today....

poor BFG 5900nu....




This is and NVIDIA fanboy singing out....for good...
$200 9800pro here i come!

Exactly! In fact, I need something that will kick ass off the shelf, as i am a new father, i can’t seem to afford new shit every time i fry it, and volt mods will have to hold off for about 18 years. or until I move up the corporate ladder a bit......ill have to ask my one month old if she can hold off on dippers so daddy can buy a new GPU....hahaha, j/k


and BTW: 6 memories came off this time with the memory heatsinks...

SCORE! I snaged my old Gdforce3 ti500 from my closet to use untill i can afford a new GPU...

I got the specs for the voltmods and too 5 mins to volt mod the memory with 2 VR's set to 820 ohm, and the Cpue with a VR set at 510 ohm.

Im running the core at 320 and the memory at 500!!! W00t!

Hey at least i can play BF-vietnam @ 1024x768x32...nothign eles on, medium setting in game, Texture quality set to preformence in Nvidia options...

And raven shield, same settings.. (50-70 FPS in both games with lows of 35 and highs of 80)


I missed my old Geforce3, it was the most fun card i have ever had....


EDIT: and my Dangerden maze4 GPU block fit on it, so its water cooled....In case your wondering how a G3 is doing so good, i think my 2.68Ghz AMD is pulling a good amount of the weight.

If you're going through cards like that perhaps you should be a wee bit less aggressive on the OCs. :)

Well, the thign is that isnt not allwas my voltmods and overclcoking that kills the card..

The very firts 5900nu i killed was becasue the damm dangenden maze4 water block has to be put on lossly or it bends the card, so the first time i put it on i dammage the core with it....

The secoudn one, yea was my fault running voltages too high too long, but at least we know what not to pass now, someone had to find out... And if the damm thing would run AA and AF at a good res in the first place i would have to do all that too it, but now that a real card has moved into my price range (9800pro) all will be good when i can find 200 bucks..

BTW: my buddie jsut bought a 9600XT, DAMM that thing kicks ass for the price.....from my eyes ATI is liek a peice of coal that looking more and more like a dimound every day.

You set the GPU speed waaaaaaaaaay too high. No wonder it burned out so quick. Same thing will happen with the Radeon if you go overkill with your overclock.
 
You are really a FX Killer. Hope this time...........you won't be a RADEON Killer.....
 
Well, the idea behind this 9800pro is that i wont have to push it way beound its limits to get it to preform

Get this and overclock the dog crap out of it. Mine does 424/654 on stock cooling. Stable & artifact free in all games & benchmarks. I used ATITool to find the max overclock, used benches and games to verify it stable at those speeds, then used powerstrip to overclock it. Actually it's got more left in it but I'm not going past 424 on the core with stock cooling.

I paid $239 for mine 6 months ago, @$170 it's a steal. You might not get as high as me but then again, my 9800 Ram sucks so you might get even better.

Your origianl budget was $200 right sooooooooo...

$200 minus $170=enough savings to get a big box of Diapers for your kid! :) That way you get a great card and your wife doesn't think you suck as much. Win, win!
 
Refurb 256MB Sapphire 9800 Pro --> 9800XT

Most of 'em have the R360 core anyway.
