i just recently bought the sharp lc-26d40u 26" lcd hdtv from bestbuy (more info here)
its main purpose is going to be a tv in a dorm room in the fall, but for the time being, i plan on using it as a pc monitor. i have it hooked up from my x700 pro on the dvi port to and hdmi port on the lcd. the problem im having is the resolution. its native resolution is 1366x768, and when i set it to 1360x768(closest ati drivers get to native), there is a flickering that appears. the flickering effect can be minimized by lowering the contrast all the way down and it isnt there on the resolution 1280x720(but an overscan which i cant seem to compensate for in anyway is.) The only other resolution that eliminates the overscan and the flickering is 1152x648, which is a little low for my taste. i'd really appreciate any help i can get on this.

Download and install powerstrip and use it to run the custom resolution...

You'll also need to disable DDC detection in the ATI control panel to get this resolution to work.

I'm in the same boat, I just got a 32" samsung lcd tv, but can't seem to get the right res. on the setting as there isnt one available. I'm using 2 x 7900gt going from dvi to hdmi. where exactly in powerstrip do I do this? I hear if you don't know what you're doing in powerstrip, it can mess it up big time.

and also, I thought that by using an hdtv watching regular cable tv would fill up the 2 sides, but its still 4:3 as opposed to 16:9

edit:
never mind, had it fixed. it seems that running hdmi to dvi will not allow the proper res. I reverted back to a vga to dvi and that got me 1360 x 768 perfectly. fixed the issue with watching 4:3 on tv as well. love this thing.
