Trying to get the search function to work on Sharepoint 2007 here.
I verified that the indexing service is running, everything looks correct under Central Administration.
When searching, I get the following error:
The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have only worked with SharePoint 2010 and 2013. But I was wondering if after you created the search application if you also have to start or enable the service? If this is not the case, then maybe look at the log files for clues?
