Shared desktop workspace for multiple computers in collaboration?

Greetings,

I have a team of 3-4 people, each having a laptop. I want to have a projected 5th desktop. Each team member will be assembling data and finding information. The thing is they need to be able to drag and drop / type / have functionality to the projected 5th desktop as though it were a second display / extended desktop.

In essence, the projected 5th desktop would be like a physical table with team members seated around the table doing research --> placing results on table --> arranging items on table to group items, analyze, etc as part of research (but in digital collaboration and teamwork).

Any ideas?
