What would I need to connect my PC and laptop to the same set of speakers and have them both be able to output audio at the same time? My speakers and PC are 5.1 analog and my laptop only has a headphone jack for output.

I am not sure how your sys. is hooked up.But a line router works.
I have 2 comps 3 amps and 1 set of speakers.
I have 3 inputs and 3 outs.
They call these by different names. I know lots of people use them

My setup is a 5.1 set of logitec speakers with 3 analog wires connecting to my desktop and a laptop with a phone jack that I'd like to hook into the speakers as well. I'd perfer an option that gives me some headroom to upgrade my system instead of maxing out with what I crrently have.

Could you give me some of the other names? I tried putting 'line router' into google and was getting a buch of T1 related hits.

You would only need to select that aux input in your soundcard software, and it's good to go.
