Hey guys, I sometimes hook up my laptop to an external monitor, with a keyboard and mouse for gaming. But the mouse is really shaky. For some reason whenever I move it kind of shakes around versus moving smoothly. Any ideas whats up? I have a logitech G9 Laser mouse.

I have installed the setpoint software and disabled the touchpad.
I have tried the mouse on another computer and it works fine. I have also tried a mousepad and no mousepad, and no difference. It is the laptop in my sig.
Thanks.

Does it do this on different surfaces? Try a different mousepad, or a sheet of paper, or magazine to test. It may just not like the surface you're using it on.

not trying to be personal or anything, but do you have any medical conditions?

I did try different surfaces. Same thing. And I don't have medical conditions. But I was able to fix it. Shoved a cuetip with alcohol on it and cleaned the lens. I guess it was just dirty. Not sure why it worked fine on the other computer though.

:( sorry - In retrospect my reply reeks of the obvious. I threw it out there because I have seen the shakey pointer when using laser mouse(s) on certain surfaces and patterns.

My mouse is a Log M310; I solved my shakes problem and other erratic behaviors by disabling the smart-pad and checking disable when external USB mouse connected. It works!

I had the same problem with high resolution monitors and the old G5... never got it solved (eventually the mouse broke down and the RMA gave me back a G500, which did not have the problem). It may be just an issue with the older avago sensor in the G5/G9 that was fixed with the G9x (which is what I use now) and the G500.

I would suggest asking Logitech support about it. Maybe you'll luck out and they'll just RMA you a G9x.
