Has anyone has owned and possibly mod an SG06 to allow longer video cards? I was going to get a SG05 but SG06 is a bit longer. With dremeling it might be able the fit the longest video card, perhaps.
 
Far as I am aware the SG05 and SG06 have the exact same Steel chassis under the plastic face plate. So any mod that works on a SG05 for a longer card should work on a SG06 as well.
 
Yeah but the front panel is like 10mm longer. Perhaps you can do a longer card in a SG06, but which card are you planning, Mr. Cowsgomoo?
 
Well, I haven't decided so I'm planning for the worst possible scenario, like a HD7970. I might go HD4000 for a few months until I need a GPU, since I do game but very infrequently. I just got off Tera Online and might not game for a few months, so it's a waste to upgrade when I'm not even using a GPU now.
Seems that SG06 has restricted airflow at the front fan but I thought I could put a Gentle Typhoon in front to help with that. The extra cm will make a difference.
 
The SG05 and SG06 both have an internal depth of 262mm, so that's as long as a the GPU can be without modding. Someone managed to fit a Powercolor PCS+ 7950 in an SG05:

However, Powercolor claims the card is 10.83 inches long (275mm), which has no chance of fitting. Without an accurate measurement of that card it's hard to tell what other cards can actually fit.

"2GB 6950" doesn't give us a lot of information without the exact model. If anyone can identify that card you might be able to get its exact length.

If you're looking to get a 7970 in the case, you might have a shot. The 7970 reference PCB is 10.5 inches (266.7mm), but the reference cooler is slightly longer, at 11 inches (279.4mm). XFX seems to have the only cooler that doesn't hang over the end of the PCB, though they list the length of their cards at 10.8 inches (274mm). You would have to dremel the case, as you mentioned, but the plastic front panel might still fit.
 
Yes, there is extra space behind the bezel of the SG06. You can cut out an opening for the graphics card and the end of it will reside in that extra space. I did a quick search and found this image.

Alternately you can go with an SG07/SG08.

yeah, 274mm sounds about right. Not only did I have to cut the interior metal panel out, but there is also a plastic ridge on the interior of the front panel right where the video card would go, so I chewed it down a bit (level with the flat front of the case... be careful, don't punch through!)
 
Not sure what you mean exactly. Your picture shows the optical tray, with the 2.5" cage under, and the 3.5" cage under that. I also see the bracket which holds the PSU.
 
There's six pieces of metal protruding out of the optical tray where the ODD is supposed to go and they don't look like they're used to hold the ODD. They're off-center and look smaller than the ODD.

guess u never used a slim ODD before, just turn the ODD up side down, u will understand
 
Slim optical drives have a thick part that holds the circuit board and motor, and a thin part that just covers the disc - see this pic. The screws go in the thick part only.
 
Just wanted to update -- that card in that picture is actually a HIS 6950 2GB, not a sapphire... I had a sapphire before this one, but it let out the magic smoke.

The HIS pictured is 275mm, though, so no massive difference if people were using the planning factor of the Sapphire card.
