Hurr... one of the biggest CPU coolers fitting in a Mini-ITX case... silly... >_<

But not all that bad of an idea, use the intake fan and PSU fan to provide airflow, keeps noise down (you'd think atleast)
 
LOL That's awesome.

I just ordered the same case & mobo yesterday... I was planning on using an old NT06Lite heatsink (or at least trying first) but forget that, I just ordered a GeminII. I <3 big heatsinks in small cases. I got an Scythe Orochi in my SG03.
 
OP: thanks for the updated pics..
Would (in your opinion) ram w/normal heatspreaders still fit? I can't tell for sure, looks to be a close fit.
 
I think it would... they can't be much bigger than ram sockets themselves and the heatsink fins are still maybe 1cm away from those... so I'd think you'd be fine.

I think I'm gonna go with a Gemini II S though (Little smaller) but still fits... with a fan ontop :D

not sure if you noticed, but the heatpipe comes pretty close to touching. Still can't tell from any of the pictures exactly how close due to the angle of the shot.
 
Yea true.. angles make it hard to tell.

It's not like you need heatsinks though... most DDR2 runs cool, heatsinks are just for the "cool" factor cause standard ram looks... generic...

But it's cheaper... runs the same speeds
 
I wonder, is it possible to fit a 4850 with scythe musashi in an sg05?
I'm curious, I know that would be a super tight fit from the images.

If this is possible, it is going to happen. With pics.
 
A HD4850 will fit, no doubt about that, even a HD4870 fits just. But a cooler like the musashi will only fit with the fans removed, otherwise I don't think it'll fit...

Even if it does fit (without the fans); is it possible to run the 4850 passively and stable with minimal to no airflow?
 
Catch is I already have a musashi and 4850, and really want to move to the SG05.
The distance from the pcb to the top of the fans (side sucking air in) is almost exactly 4cm. By looking at pictures and measurements, I figure to have about 4.2cm of room from the slot to the side of the case.. could someone with an SG05 confirm?
 
How would this compare to a "standard" solution, like a Scythe Shuriken for example? I'm sure it's great to have less fans in the case.
 
Looks great I tried something like that and used my PSU fan to cool the Heat sink but the PSU fan only ran at like 600 rpms so it wasn't enough to cool it.
 
guess i found my next victim. sg05... I wonder if either of those heatsink + zotac combos can fit an HR05 SLI in there...

edit: doh! pesky battery.

I wonder if my Phantom passive PSU would fit w/o the drive bays.
It looks like you could fit a SSD on the case floor in front of the board.

I'd stick with a lower power 4770 over a 4850/70 for a build like this .

So my question then is, how much room is there really between the RAM and heatpipe of the GeminII? For example, would it be enough to fit in Corsair RAM that's fitted with the DHX/Dominator Heatsink on it?

If we could get a end view photo of this setup (please Extreme Techinist :D) we could probably judge if they'd fit . . . but of course that'd be unnecessary if somebody has tried it already .. . :p
 
Not enough space for dominators, I tried fitting them with the heatsink in place (GeminiII no GeminiII S) and they wouldnt fit. Heck even XMS2 with standard size heatspreaders were difficult to install with the HS in place. Maybe hey'll fit if you install RAM first though.

But you could cut one or two fins I guess, no harm done except resale value...

I think 9300ITX cannot overclock very high(3 phase power)

so DDRII 800 is enough
 
I'm still surprised no one has tried this :

Since the GeminiII (wich is 81mm will fit) we have 83mm and not the 78mm as Silverstone says.

Basic ATX PSU are 150mm(W) x 86mm(H) x 150mm(L)
The MiniPSU is 125 mm (W) x 63.5 mm (H) x 100 mm (D)

Which means we lose about 23 mm over the available hight.
So 83 minus 23 => 60mm available

Scythe Big Shuriken SCBSK-1000 is 58mm with a 12mm FAN.

So you can put an ATX PSU with the Scythe Big Shuriken SCBSK-1000 blowing upwards at fullspeed into the PSU.
With the PSU fan sitting just above the CPU Socket. You can even add some rubber to make a perfect airtight fit.

However if you want a better solution, put a 25 or 36mm fan on the Scythe, dremel a bit the PSU for the CPU fan blowing into the now fanless PSU.
And put a 60mm or 80mm at the exhaust of the PSU.

Does the SG05 have more clearance than the SG01, or should this work in there too? I wanted to get the GeminII S for the SG01, but I was afraid it wouldn't fit and just went with the Scythe Shuriken. Maybe I'll put a larger fan on it blowing upwards and see how that works.
 
Hehe, huge cooler in a tiny case sure looks awesome. I'm still torn between various coolers, mainly Silverstone's NT06, the GeminII and the Big Shuriken. The NT06 obviously fits, as does the GeminII, but the Shuriken would have the benefit of a fan to improve overall airflow and yet shouldn't be in any way loud. However it seems the trickiest one to actually install on the board as well as the Sugo case. It's a tricky dilemma.

Though based on the OP's temp readings, I guess the passive GeminII should be able to hand just about any CPU I could ever put there - and I'm not planning on more than a E5200/E6300 now, with the possible/likely upgrade to a Q8400S or similar low-power quad at some point in the future when the dual core won't cut it anymore (or just upgrade to a newer low-power-but-decent-performance platform). According to a mail reply I received from Silverstone, even the NT06 should be able to handle a Q8400S with nothing but the PSU and standard case fans providing airflow, and the GeminII certainly has more cooling surface.

Combined with possibly a passive HD 4670 this would certainly be a very quiet box compared to my previous ones... too bad there's no passive HD 4770.

The idea of trying the GeminII came directly from Tony at Silverstone, who pointed out a web forum thread in which a user had installed the Coolermaster heatsink on a similar motherboard, and installed it in the SG05. Kudos to Tony for being big-minded enough to point out a competitor's product. The GeminII is a massive heatpipe heatsink with room for two 120mm fans &#8212; which would never fit into the SG05/06 with fans. It came without fans, and that's the way it was used here.

I tested the gemini s and geminii and in my case i found the geminii to give me better temps and since its passive less noise.

Yeah.. I just read the SPCR review, I had managed to skip that one previously. Was definitely a good read, and indeed the GeminII outperformed the NT06 by roughly 4-5 degrees under load if running the case fan at 9V. Not an insubstantial amount at all. Still, given the test setup was using a E7200, the temps were slightly higher than I could've hoped (more in terms of the future quad upgrade than for this particular CPU) - but acceptable nonetheless.
 
Haha, took a look at the CM store too... $8 cooler, but $87 shipping to Finland :D If I'd order, say, 10 units, it'd still end up cheap (about $25 each) compared to &#8364;39 (~ $56) that they cost new here in Finland, but I can't really do that. Heh.
