Is Shuttle and Dell the only ones doing this? Does anyone sale just the Brick and a change over kit?

I dont know a bout a 'change over kit' because the motherboard has to integrate it, but im sure you can find the Shuttle model that uses the external brick for sale.

You could by the Shuttle and disassemble it? I think this is something pretty specific to the case and I have yet to see a case that is set up for an "external" power supply.

I have been real tempted to open up the Dell 620 that I have and check it out. But it is a work computer and they might not like me playing with it.

I could not stand it anylonger So I opened up the dell I have.

The Brick connectes direct to the MB and power to the fans and to the HD come from the MB.

The Brick is this

This link has the pin out for the supply.

Looks like all that is needed is a small board with power out connecters for the PC.

Is there just not any interest in haveing a Power brick instead of haveing to use a PS in the case?

why would you want to have a power brick? Just one more big thing outside of your case...

Many reasons

More room in the case. One less heat source. Passive cooling so one less noise source.

That tends to be the biggy in the SFF world.
