Hello ladies/gents. I want to build a SFF machine that I can use as a HTPC/light lanbox/linux experimenting out of some spare parts. I mainly want to connect the machine via dvi-hdmi/toslink as a media box so I can showcase movies and pictures to friends and family. So I need a case that is durable and portable. My parts list as follows and I have a budget of about $300-$400:

E6300 (I will probably give this CPU a slight overclock)
2GB PC-800
7900GT PCIE
160GB Hitachi HD

p.s. Do any of you think I should wait for new motherboards and cases that was brought out at CES08?

ahh the waiting game... you can always wait for something better cause its going to be better or because what you are planning on buying will be cheaper due to the new stuff entering the market.

Waiting is up to you.

as far as cases go, i love my lanbox, plus i have the asus board with the hdmi but those two items alone might come close to your bottom line budget including taxes and or shipping, depending on what applies to you. It is really up to you as far as the cases go, you might do a search on new egg and pick a few or three out and post them here to get opinions from people who own them

as far as the motherboard goes, remember if you wait, the new stuff will be expensive so you might need a larger budget if your planning on getting some of the newer stuff, a new motherboard could be a good bed for an easy upgrade in the future though.

if 400$ max is only for the case and mobo you shouldnt run into any problems unless you set your sights on the frag box, sheesh that thing is expensive, but nice looking
