The system I'm building right now is a micro-atx athlon 64 and I'm going to be putting a 9800 pro in it (already have the card). I am concerned that most SFF psu's are in the range of about 250w, and I know most of the gaming cards are pretty power hungry.

Does anyone have any experience running high-end gaming systems in their sff setups? Have I just been surrounded with 400+w psu's too long?

You should be fine as long as it's a quality PSU.

Specs below with a 250W SilentX PSU.

More importantly, what case/SFF did you go with? Is this a Shuttle box? Antec Aria? Other? Most of the prebuilt or barebones models can handle the x800 just fine. The Antec Aria can hold its own with it's 300 watt psu as well.

It's a custom case. Modified Mac Classic SE.

Edit: Thought I'd clarify. So that means I haven't decided on which psu to use, and clearance for the vid card isn't an issue (already measured before I started butchering the case).

What are the good brands for low-profile sff psu's?

The Shuttle SilentX 250watt models will work fine and have a small enough footprint for what you are doing. You could go with a 1U rackmount PSU, but it will end up costing you more. The Shuttles PSU will fit in most cases with very little modding.
