I carry my computer with me out of my dorm room just about every weekend, and I was thinking that getting one of these cases might be a wise idea. What are my limitations, should I choose to do this? Would all the components in my sig fit into an SFF case? What about longevity/cooling? What would you reccomend in the way of cases? Sorry for the n00b Q's, but I'm in the dark on this sort of thing...

Your limitions are basically the max the Shuttle can hold. In most Shuttle models, can do max: 2 HDDs, 1 AGP video card, 1 PCI card, and one Optical drive is the maximum these systems can hold. Due to the size and smaller PSU's you will not be able to overclock as high as an ATX spec machines

Shuttles are cooled by the ICE system which cools the CPU and the system in one shot. They do there job very well at ver minimual noise. Shuttles run warmer then Atx system due to smaller size and lesser ventilation but life of the equipment isn't really effected by this.

If you wanna transfer your existing setup into a Shuttle case, the SN41G2V2 B2 is a great. I have two of them and they work excellent. They come in Black and Silver

I would also have to suggest that if you get a SFF machine (like a shuttle) to purchase a holding, or carrying case of some kind. It doesn't neccesarily have to be the brand that shuttle makes, as it can be made by CaseAce, or any other company. I would suggest that you do your homework on the various carry cases/bags for SFF machines. Also if you have a LCD monitor I would invest in a case for that too. I now simply walk in and out of lanparties with both hands completely free and I also don't break my back doing it.
 
As incredibly cool looking as those cases are, is there something a little more suited for a budget-minded, jobless college student such as myself? :D
 
not really, if you want small you kinda have to pay big. You could probably find one on ebay for cheaper but the SFF's are spendy.
