Looking to build a SFF system to sit next to my TV so we can stream YouTube videos, browse the web, etc on the TV.

Also, plan to run cable through the wall to my wife's desk so she can use it as a desktop to browse the internet, work on some documents, post on her blog, etc...

The whole idea is to keep power consumption and heat as low as possible as we have a passive house and use a generator during winter during storms.

The Intel Core i3-3220T looks to fit the bill nicely.

However, my question is: Is there going to be a new Intel CPU that replaces the above released relatively soon (6months) that will offer less power consumption? I don't mind if it's even slightly less powerful.

Haswell is gonna be released pretty soon( around june/july). They have pretty power efficient cpus, i5 and i7 that use 35w too. namely the i7 4765t and i5 4570t as seen on the haswell lineup. Better internal GPU and better ipc ratios. :)
 
Ok, I think i`m going to have to wait!

I`m sure once I start ripping BR and DVD that will speed up the process :D:D
 
Look into the Lenovo Q190. It has been on sale for as low as $250, and that is a complete computer (including keyboard/mouse/Windows) minus a monitor. It uses a Celeron 887 CPU, which is a mobile 17W dual core 1.5GHz Sandy Bridge CPU. Basically this is a ULV notebook minus the screen, so it should have really low power draw. It has VGA, HDMI, USB 3.0, SPDIF, WiFi, Win8. Only drawback is the fan runs all the time, so while not noisy, not "silent" either.
