1. What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming

2. What's your budget? Could probably go up to $3,000 (raise, xmas bonus, tax refund)

3. Where do you live? I live in Northern NJ. We have Micro Center, but my friend builds/fixes PC's for a living, so we have access.

4. What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, Case, Video Card (ATI 7970), PSU.

5. If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? I have 3 1tb hard drives, 1 velociraptor drive, and an intel ssd.

6. What specific features do you need in a motherboard? I'd like to grab the new LGA2011 socket with the latest i7. I game at 1920x1080 so Crossfire won't be necessary. I think the size of the system should only be compromised if water cooling both the CPU and GPU becomes an issue.

7. What resolution output do you need? 1920x1080. No multiple monitors.

8. Does this system need to fit into a particular space? No

9. How comfortable are you with custom case design/modification and electrical wiring? Between me and a friend, we have the tools and know-how to modify.

10. How important is the noise/silence of this sytem? As quiet as possible without sacrificing GPU power.

11. How mobile does this system need to be? Not very. Maybe the occasional move to a lan party, if that.

12. Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Yes. Windows 7.

13. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? I'd like to get started and then purchase the ATI 7970 when it is released next month.

Thanks in advance guys. I've been pondering this for a few weeks, and not being into SFF or water cooling before, it is a bit daunting to search for the right parts available right now. I've been building rigs for years now, but they have always been full towers and air cooled.

I really just want a small, unsuspecting box, that packs a real punch when it comes to gaming.

Looking over some of the companies like Falcon Northwest and Puget, etc. was also pretty daunting, and seemed like you were paying way too much for the compenents you were getting.

Wow, for that kind of budget you could commission a custom case to whatever specs / artwork you wanted!

Hehe, hence my complete lack of knowledge on the subject. I was just going by what the manufacturers of custom systems were going for. I had configured a few machines in excess of $2000 with liquid cooling. I'm guessing I was off the mark completely with how much money I want to spend on this project?
