Greetings peoples,

First off i want everyone to know i tried resolving this myself for quite sometime before comming in here to ask. I've pretty much given up hope that this card will ever work right but a little closure would ease my conscious. This is whats occuring:

I have a Gainward Goldensample 2100POWER PACK (6800NU). That i've had for a few months. As of the past month and a half if i had to cold boot it would show the Post image saying NVIDIA Geforce 6800 yadda-yadda but the screen was covered in white garbage, almost like ASCII code and would continue to stay this was till it hit the windows splash screen, then it appeared to display ok,till getting into the windows login, at which point the screen would go blank and the monitor (Viewsonic A70f) said that it couldnt find a signal.

So i would hit the reset button, and sometimes it would post just fine afterwards and load into windows as if nothing was wrong at all. Well recently it would show ASCII garbage in color on occasional post.

When in windows the 2D as well as 3D performance seem unaffected. I have checked for tempreture issues and have applied thermal paste to the RAM sinks and Arctic Silver to the GPU bringing it from 62c idle to 53c idle. As said i've pretty much given up hope but if some closure could be brought about i would feel much more comfortable. Card is not overclocked and PC is not overclocked either, all voltages are at stock.

if I were you, I would RMA the troublemaker right away. I have an XFX6800NU and after I changed comp chassis I had similar corruption, except it would never get better. so I RMAed through the manuf and they replaced it. now I'm a happy camper.

****ONLY DO THIS IF YOU CANT RMA YOUR CARD FROM A BAD BIOS FLASH****

Ok this is just a hunch but try to flash your card's bios. My hunch is that your card has a semi-corrupted bios or something to that effect, probably something to do with the bios anyhow... if not just a dieing card.

Like I said up there the bios flash might not work and if you can still rma this card and you can rma it for a bad bios flash then try it.

Good luck.

I've flashed it with the Nvidia 6800 BIOS and it seems to work for awhile, but then it just starts going down hill again. I cant find my recipt so i cant RMA thru the manufacturer.....can i?

Give them a call, it can never hurt. You might want to flash it back to the original bios though, otherwise they might void your warranty based on tampering of the card.

Also as a long shot, if you can. Try a different (bigger, better) Power Supply.. If you current one is having a problem supplying the power necessary it could give similar symptoms.

I saw a good deal on a Thermaltake 480w PSU i might buy and give a try. Im currently running an Antec TruPower 400W for my setup,so it might be pulling too much.

I have tried it in 2 different PC's and they have showed the same results. I figure all else fails ill just pickup a 6600GT for gaming on a budget, it would be a shame tho to waste 325$ ona vid card i already own.

Worth a call to RMA, many MFGs will RMA based on serial number if you don't have a Recipt.. but instead of 1 year from purchase, it becomes 1 year from manufacture .. (or 3 years or whatever their warranty is) So you still have a warantee without a recipt, just a shorter one.

Also your vender may be able to reissue you a recipt if you used a credit card to purchase it.

Bought it off of newegg (naturally) using a credit card yes. Maybe ill try and get ahold of gainward and see what i can come up with.

Newegg keeps all your records on their site...you can just print out a new receipt and that should work? Their RMA service only requires you send back the defective part, not with any documentation since they have it all.
