I've been looking for a monitor for several months now. Just been on and off on the research, but now that I'm in xmas break, I think it's time to finally decide!

My brother recently bought a Samsung 24" (forget the model #) from Newegg and it turned out to have 4 dead pixels. Unfortunately, Newegg's policy says he cannot return or exchange it unless it has 8 or more.

With that being said, I'm a little cautious buying from Newegg. My current monitor, a 19" Optiquest (yeah it's crappy I know) also has dead pixels x3 and it was purchased from Newegg...Just bad luck =(

I've been researching at a local Bestbuy for the best deals and I have my eyes on a couple and I was looking to see which one would be the best for movies/gaming:

1.

I'm also not sure why #1 is more expensive than #3. The LG227WTG seems to have 22" viewing screen size while W224 has a slightly less 21.6".

I also noticed neither of these have a HDMI port, but I believe you can get an adapter for this?

Thanks for any input fellaz!

If anyone has any other monitor they can vouch for (at a local store; Compusa, Bestbuy, etc), please do! I would prefer the price be less than $350. I don't mind going with a 22" over a 24". =)

Grab this deal dude. Pretty good for $250 on a 24"

Samsung 2443BWX 24" for $300

Among the monitors you listed, i would pick the L227WTG-PF 22" but wait for it to go on sale again. Eventually it will. The last time it was on sale it was for $259.99

Newegg is by far the WORST place you can try to buy LCD, last time I bought one that I think had some problem, the idiot CS keep asking 8 dead pixels BS, as if there is no other problem with LCD. Thank god it was a Hitachi, which has the best CS EVER, they overnighted me new one right away, let me test both for two days and keep the one I want, all at their cost, it's a shame they are no longer in market for LCD.

I had the same problem, I ordered two Gateway 24" FHD2400's from Tigerdirect for a dual monitor setup, first had 1 dead pixel, second had 5, lucky they are a 30 day no matter what return policy on the LCD's, but I had to pay to ship them back. w/e. So I headed down to bestbuy and picked up the LG L227WTG-PF for two reasons,

In my opinion 24" TN is not acceptable, viewing angles were awful on (TN panels 24" and up) the Gateways.

Also, I wanted a Glossy Screen which the Gateway and the LG 227WTG-PF has. I am more than happy with the LG, NO DEAD PIXELS and great viewing angles for a TN (170 H/V)

I am a competitive gamer and this LCD is known for having zero input lag, games like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, CS:Source and Call of Duty series all look great.

I picked the monitor up on November 21st for $259 at bestbuy, if the screen has any defects at all you can return it no questions asked within 14 days.

It does not come with a DVI cable, did not matter to me as I have a few, Again the LG227WTG-PF Has a glossy screen which some hate but I love, colors are more vibrant.
I will absolutely be picking up a second one for a dual setup.

Thanks for the input strat4812!

I just got back from BestBuy and they have the LG227 and this other one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8739092&type=product&id=1201913867402

It doesn't seem to be different from the LG227 at all, other than the fact that it has a curvey bottom. The representative there told me that the $289 is actually a newer model?

Can anyone shed light on why this is cheaper/different than the LG227?

I have the LG W2252TQ. It's the same monitor as the LG 227WTG-PF, except that it's matte instead of glossy, and there is slightly more input lag (1-2ms @ most).

Hm... that's interesting. I really would like the glossy over the matte. I wasn't aware of this difference, thanks.

Doesn't the W2252TQ also do 1:1 while the 227WTG does not?

From what I have heard/read, the 227WTG does not have any imput lag. How true is that?

I was seriously looking at the 227WTG, but after having a 24' on my desk running 1920x1200, I think I would have a tough time with 1680x1050........unless 1680x1050 on a 22' offers something 1920x1200 on a 24' doesn't.

No input lag in gaming :)

Well, from what I understand, the LG2252TQ has 1-2ms input lag while the LG227WTG-PF has none, but apparently DigitalVersus feels differently: they claim that the LG2252TQ is the most reactive of the LCD monitors they've tested up to that date (May 22, 2008), even more than the LG227WT (the 227WTG-PF is the glossy version of the 227WT). Here's the link to both panels compared side-by-side to each other. Keep in mind that prad.de has a more favorable opinion about the 227WT.

The trouble with the 227WT is it has horrible colors. The 252TQ although not much better can at least be corrected. It is impossible to adjust the 227WT colors properly because of the wide color gamut. For that reason alone I would go with the 252TQ.
